    Amp suggestions

I’m sure this has been discussed before but for some reason cannot do a search from my ap.

Seeking some amp. recommendations for my 2008 196. I currently have a Clarion CMD8, 4 Polk Momo stock speakers and one 12” sub powered by a Rockford Fosgate single channel mono amp.

I’m looking to add 4 tower speakers, most likely the double can polk speaker set up on monster tower.com website. They recommend a 2 channel Wet Sounds amp to power them.

However I’d rather not have two amps in my boat. So I’m looking to get an amp to power the four tower speakers and my sub. If needed I can do a four channel amp to power the four factory Polk Momo speakers and the future added tower speakers but the head unit seems to power the current 4 Polk speakers just fine.

So I’m looking for some recommendations on which amp I should get. Anyone out there your help is great appreciated.

Rather then a pair of double 6.5" (4 speakers) I would consider a single pair of 8". More and deeper mid-bass = better sound quality. Maybe a shade less peak volume, but better sounding for certain.

With the present plan, thats 9 speakers to driver. If you are happy with the in-boats on the head unit, you could theoretically install a 4 chnl to drive the woofer and tower pods. Why are you opposed to adding a 2nd amp? At a minimum, id suggest leaving the current woofer amp if its a good match for the woofer, and install a 4 chnl amp to drive the in-boats and tower pods. In reality, your current woofers coil configuration will determine any future amp to drive it.

Do you know model and coil configuration the current woofer and what amp model is driving it?

I’m looking for more loudness on the tower is why I am considering the 4 speaker option. And my thoughts for a single amp is only due to space and convenience

      My sub I was mistaken it’s only a 10”

alpine, jl audio, and wetsounds all make a fine 5 channel marine amp. The new jl can produce 200 w x 2 for towers and 500 w x 1 for sub. I have an alpine 75 w x 4 + 300 w x 1 driving the cockpit and it is incredible. the new amps are incredibly powerful for their size.

Wet Sounds does not offer a 5 chnl amp, but the 6 chnl Syn-DX6 can be configured into 5 chnl mode and drive the woofer and all your in-boats and tower speakers.

JL may offer a 5 chnl that delivers 200 x 2 on the 4 full range chnls, but that would be bridging a 4 ohm load. A double polk pod would be a 2 ohm load, so no bridging it on a JL amp. JL offers 5 marine 5 chnl amp, may be helpful to clarify which one is being referenced above.

You want volume? For a little more then the double pod polk setup, you can get a pair of Wet Sounds Rev-8 HLCD. The Wet Sounds HTX-6 would give you the same 300W rms to your 4 ohm 10" woofer and 300W rms to each Rev-8.
