Roswell HCLD Upgrade

Just wondering has anyone replaced their Roswell 7.0 Airborne tower speakers and reused the stock cans? I would love to keep the same lighting on my 13 G23 but get a little better mid range. Also considered replacing 2 of the 4 with Rev10s, but will probably sound and look bad.

Then consider no more. Remove all 4 pair and install one pair of Rev-10. There is no driver upgrade thats going to give you the mid-bass of a 10" rev-10. Swapping the 6.5" HLCD driver over to a 6x9 coaxial will be an upgrade mid-bass wise, but you may notice a loss of wake range projection. You can upgrade to the Wet Sounds Rev696RS HLCD. You will gain a little more mid-bass and retain your wake range projection.

I was really hoping to hear that someone had tried fitting a pair of Rev8s or REVO 8s in the stock enclosures. With the price of the 6x9s I think Rev10s make more sense. The stock pods are awesome though.

The issue is that whats there now is a 6.5 round speaker and the Rev and revo 8 are 8" round speakers. No where close to making that work. By time you add up 2 pair of Rev696RS drivers, you are close to a pair of Rev-10.

Few questions-
Will my board racks clear if I mount the rev 10s in the outer stock locations?
Should I buy the FC5-U mounting brackets?
I plan to reuse my stock Polk amp and add a ws420bt, any known issues with this setup?

There has been mention of swapping the rev 696 into this enclosure. Can anyone confirm that these will in fact fit in the roswell enclosure? I had a wet sounds technician tell me they wouldn't fit?

Those are awesome. I would love to see how that was done. I love those canisters but the sounds coming out of them is way to screechy and the speakers fail quite a bit.
If anybody has info on how this conversion turned out I would love to hear about it.

Its just like replacing the existing drivers. No modifications to the pod.

you would have to remove the REV 6x9 from its original enclosure, and then possibly modify one or two things for clearance/fit. Honestly, unless you are just in love with the OEM enclosure, sounds like you should just upgrade. the Rev6x9 is more half the cost of a pair of rev 10s. they are also only rated for 150 watts rms.

I see. I mistook the conversion from the 6.5 and the 6x9s. I had the 6.5 and the cost from Roswell was enormous to change to the 6x9s. Like distinguished said it then makes the upgrade much more appealing.

The Wet Sounds 6x9 HLCD comes in 2 forms. In an enclosure for large boats, under the gunwales, and as a raw driver (speaker only). You would want to go with the raw driver, so no removing anything from an enclosure.

As noted, no modifications need to be done to the speaker basket or pod. I did not google and find that image, I did that upgrade.

Retail on the raw rev-696rs was $599 last I checked. 2 pair of less then pair of Rev-10 but a little. They 696rs can also be powered same as the rev-8, so an amp in the 300W rms to each, like the Syn-DX2.3HP would be off the hook, or the Syn-DX2 would be perfect for 2 pair.

MLA, do you have any pictures of the final product? Did you still use the WS grills? Need to replace the Roswell speakers and looking for options. $800 for the Roswell speakers, or $321 for the Focal speakers but one would need to buy an adaptor kit for $85.

It's the picture I have now . In one week I can take others. This are Wetsounds 6x9. Fit perfect. Easy swap.
