Subwoofer in Ski Nautique

I am planning to put a subwoofer in my 1999 Ski Nautique. I am not looking for an obnoxious setup, just a single sub to cleanup the sound of the overall system. I am interested in any suggestions/examples of others’ setups in a closed bow. I am hoping to not take up too much of the storage space under the bow and would prefer the sub to end up on the port side of the boat. Though the starboard “shelf” seems like an ideal spot to not take up too much storage, I typically ski with only a driver in the boat and am trying not to add weight to our already severe list to the starboard side.

Has anyone built an enclosure that follows the shape of the hull on the port side? I am thinking the sub mounted in a sealed enclosure and firing down at an angle toward the port side hull. If I go this route, how much clearance do I need to leave between the face of the sub and the hull?

I was really excited about an idea to mount an IB sub in the base of the passenger seat facing out into the cockpit, but the seat base is not even tall enough for an 8”.

One way X max of the sub plus about a 1/4" inch. two inches would be plenty. enclosures can be a bitch to deal with or design. Check out the MS-E from waves and wheels, hold one ten inch woofer, you can get it loaded with a sub or choose your own. high density plastic, it will never crack from wakes or drops.

Quick update on this project - I have my sub box and amp board finished and ready to mount. I am thinking through how to mount the amp board and sub box to the side of the hull.

Initial thought is to glass some mounting blocks into the side of the hull to screw the amp board and sub box into. Given that each of these items are pretty heavy (I would say the sub box with sub installed will be 50+lbs), how strong does the bond between these mounting blocks and the hull need to be? I assumed I would have to use at least one layer of cloth but am wondering if just some epoxy would be sufficient? Saw on some other forums that people have gotten away with just liquid nails to mount an amp board - can’t imagine that would hold up given the beating a close bow nautique takes when hitting a moderate sized wave - maybe I’m overestimating though.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

I'm interested in this as well. I haven't mounted my audio stuff yet (hopefully get to it this summer) and I was thinking maybe some super velcro would work. I have no clue but attaching a board to the hull is causing me to have the same types of thoughts.

I had a bazooka powered sub mounted sideways above and in front of the drivers feet in my direct drive Malibu. I mounted the sub volume control just under the dash. It greatly improved the sound of the stock stereo system as a simple quick fix. My old head unit died so I upgraded it and I ran that system with no amps other than the powered sub and it was great. It was definitely loud enough for me but I am not a scream over the stereo kind of person.
