    New Speaker Grills Only?

I have put new skins on the entire boat....that being said.....the old holes are covered in vinyl right now and i am preparing for the cut. 2003 210 SANTE

    Question:
Has anyone found any speaker covers or grills that will screw direct onto the 5 1/2" PVC ring? Struggling to find some new cover that might update the look. I do not want to go back to the original cloth look. I figured the easy solution was to screw new covers on.....not the case for me so far. Thanks D

Why not just front mount your speakers? If you want a grill look, you'll get it and front mounted speakers will sound better.

Maybe I am not understanding you.....but if I bring it up front with no cover on it.....is there not a chance for something to poke it or break it?

Looking at the pictures you might want to go a larger speaker grill or what about mounting the grill to some sort of ring then attaching the new ring to the PVC ring? This would make it so the new ring would be acting like the speaker itself.

now you have me thinking ...I could go bigger and do something like a light fixture can does with springs holding it in......just thought a 4 screw grill into 5.5 pvc would have been the easiest

That mounting is way more complicated then what I had in my Sport Nautique. On my sport the speakers were originally mounted to the back of the coaming pad.

What I was suggesting was getting a new speaker that has a grill and mounting that in front, but it looks like your speakers are already front mounted and it wouldn't work because of the angle of the speaker mount.

Im guessing you are wanting to retain the old speakers? New interior is a great time to upgrade the speakers and front-load recessed into the vinyl and foam.

I understand. My point is, that what you do now grill wise, to the new vinyl may not be undoable when the time does come to upgrade the speakers.

What's your budget, how many speakers do you need?

Good speakers are $50 to $100 (Polk DBs) a pair. Better speakers are $100 to $200(Polk MMs). Best would be $200 to $300 (Wetsounds or JLs).

In boats are super cheap compared to towers. I say think for the future and put in a nice modern looking speaker.

Ok...you both have me sold.....not too bad of a expense.....4 hull speakers...and after looking at the new skin piece last night....I need a solution before I put this back on. And with the weather getting warm....I am ready to get it back on.

Would you all stick with my same pockets I have and just replace the whole speaker into the same pocket? Or is there something new with speakers that I am not aware of...that I should plan for. Not sure if this makes sense...its early for me. Thanks D

From the picture it looks like the speaker pocket is fairly complicated to try and front mount to.

Unless you are skilled with this type of thing I feel you have two choices. Take it to a reputable stereo shop and have them fab up a way to mount a new speaker in top of the pocket Possibly $$$ but still maybe worth getting a quote.

Or keep it the way it is, replace the speakers and keep the original look.

Thanks Blamey.......hearing this kind of feedback sure helps me from racking my own brain constantly. I do appreciate it! I am looking right now at speakers as we speak.....for the cost, I am thinking about upgrading the speaker, but maybe do the original cloth set up....with a nice black or something. Thanks again D
