Help: Need to Enarge Subwoofer opening by 1/2"

I decided to upgrade the Subwoofer in my 2009 230. I picked up a Wet Sounds sub. Stupid me did not think to check the mount size.

Turns out the WS sub is pretty wide for a 10" and I need increase the diameter of the mounting hole 1/4" to 1/2".

I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to do this. And what tool to use . The glass is about 1.5" thick but I only need to increase the fist 5" so I could champfer the edge.

Second option would be to mount to a spacer but would need to know what material to use as I assume MDF wouldn't be a good choice.

Third option would be to get a new sub (honestly leaning towards this option).

Air grinder with fairly rough grit drum wheel on it. I would recommend a shop vac right next to the tool while running. you can also get an air body saw, but they are harder to use with removing so little. second option you mentioned - star boar is the material that it should be made out of. i've ordered starboard speaker spacers from gscreations.com in the past. they don't have a wet sound subs listed but they can custom make most things.

new sub is also an option. but honestly, in an '09, it could just the enclosure set up that sucks. I don't know personally if its an IB set up like my 10 or a fiberglass enclosure under the spotter seat like an '07. neither are particularly good, but with the right equipment they can be much better.

I went with Option 3. Decided to switch to the JL sub.As far as I can tell it should fit but will just require some new mounting holes. I was able to find some places selling the starboard spacers. I may still go add those but I think I should be good now.

I really didn't want to be grinding glass. I have PTSD from rebuilding a transom many moons ago.

Yeah, I understand the location is going to be limiting and maybe I'll choose to move it later but I figured that a 10 year old sub was worth replacing anyway. For $300 bucks it seamed like a low cost upgrade. For now I value my space more then my bass.

Good choice, its the least amount of work. for that price I am assuming you went with the JL M10WIB3, which is a good option for either enclosure. better suited for the IB set up, but better than a 10 year old no doubt.

yeah i do not know of any other company that uses JLs bolt hole pattern that 100%, some kenwood stuff uses the same space and hole number but the JL grills will not be horizontal.

Yeah, I got the JL M10IB.

My 2009 has the woofer location behind the drivers seat.
