Clarion radio in a 2000 SAN

We have a 2000 SAN. This boat originally came with a normal DIN radio on the right side of the driver console. The radio was covered with a lit.
It's a very anoying system. Everytime you want to adjust the volume or something you have to turn around and tilt the lid and then you can adjust the volume or whatever.
I'm thinking of buying a Clarion XMD3 or CMD4 and but it in that spot. Get rid of the lid (because the XMD3/CMD4 is waterproof) and install a remote on the dash.
My question is; does anyboady know if a XMD3 or CMD4 will fit in that spot? I know that the 2001-2002 SAN got the radio there without the lid, but perhaps the right console is adjusted for that.

Isn't the lid there to keep water out of your head unit ?

I have a 2000 Sport Nautique, and I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of the radio cover either. I'm interested to see if anyone has done any modifications to their radio install to get rid of that radio cover.

Yes, the lid is for to keep te water out of the radio. But the XMD and CMD4 are waterproof. So no need for a lid then. The 2001 and 2002 SAN come without a lid, but I'm wondering if the right console and specifically the place where the radio is installed is the same between a 2000 SAN and 2001/2002 SAN?

Why not just add a remote to the dash? My buddy with a 2000 SAN did it with his. He has a Sony head unit but you get the idea.

The console is changed on the 01"s They did away the hump/ridge around the radio because they removed the flip up lid/armrest. They did this to make the new radio sit flush on the console. If you put a new style clarion in a 00 it will not look right and will not sit flush because of the hump which actually seals the lid on this year model. I have done the research and looks like I am going with the M455 in my 00 SAN.. Hope this helps you? By the way if you have a ipod the m455 has a AUX set of rca"s you can plug the ipod to..

              Thanks,
This was the info I was looking, and affraid of. Just drop the idea of a XMD/CMD in a 2000 SAN, and going with a remoted radio then.
