Where is your Sub woofer in your 230

Planning on upgrading the factory sub in my 07 236 over the winter. Did some searching and couldn't find many pictures of subs other than under the co-pilot seat. I'm considering mounting one where the rear of the sub will be under the co-pilot seat but have the sub facing the walk through (mounted in the walk thru area next to trash can. Has anyone done this? Pics? Where else have people put subs in their 230s? I'm hoping to get to at least a 12" sub, but would love to go even bigger. If you have pictures, please post them.

i looked into it on my 07 236 but figured i'd rather not turn the trash can door into a rattle trap.

best bet is a custom sub somewhere or an enclosure that's easily movable. I've seen a few 230s with boxes in the driver foot well.

the 2010 230 had the sub behind the driver on the combing pad. this was awful because the throttle is on the same panel. if you let go of the throttle while jamming the bass hits would cause it increase in speed.

i'll see if i can find some pics of my 07 236 set up.

      here's what i got.

what i did was take a 12' altrend (spelling?) box from amazon, cut an extra panel so the whole box was flush, ripped off all the carpet, sanded/leveled it, then had my gel coat guy spray the whole box in silver cloud.

matched really well, and gave me a 12" vented instead of the factory 10" sealed enclosure.

woofer was a 12" sundown type E sub, dual 2 ohm voice coil wired to 4 ohms for the stock sub. originally had it on a JL a1600 mono sub amp that was putting out 500 watts RMS at 4 ohms and it was considerably better than the stock set up.

Does your trash can door rattle?

It did not, as the woofer was facing the gunwale. I suppose if the trash door did rattle, you could take some gasket tape and put it around the perimeter. as you can tell in that set up i did not use the OEM trash can.

Yeah, I was thinking about using some kind of gasket for the trash can so I could continue to use it if I went with my original plan and had the sub mounted on the same wall as I mentioned in my original post.

Do you think you have 14" overall diameter behind or in front of the Trash can door?

the JL M12IB6 would fit if you do. 600 watts RMS and set up for Free Air.

other than that, perhaps some wet sounds Free Air 12s

What happens to the space in the 230 with the old subwoofer. Do you leave it hooked up? In place?....

                  Sub'd as I am interested.
I was thinking about a down fire sub (12" hopefully) in a box under the "flip up" small seat to the aft of the port side observer's seat. It's not much use for storage and I think i can sneak in a little over a cubic foot in that area...I'll see if I can find a pic of what area I'm describing.

He's got an 07, which does not have the sub behind the driver right side in the combing pad like yours, if yours was like my '10

Correct. My sub currently sits in the storage on under the glove box.

This is the area/seat I'm talking about (small flip up seat under the removable seat back), I would then install a grill/vent in the seat base, thoughts?

your interior is pretty similar to my old boats. always liked the orange.

something about that placement to note:

the area has tubes that support that hold the reversible seat back bars/pins. remove the access panel and you will see.

i looked into placing JL 8" woofers underneath the latch for the removable spotter seat but i didn't think they would fit easily there.

I had to be a little resourceful to make it happen, but cutting out the opening was a must if I wanted the subs to sound right.
