1999 Ski Nautique New Stereo Set Up

I have a 1999 CB 19'6" Nautique. I just wanted a nice radio to listen too while floating around in the lake.....now i have selected 4 JL m650s, a JL M400 amp, and an unspecified head unit. Now i have accepted the fact that I need a second battery...

1)Where is a good place to mount this, and what is the best way to secure it?

2)Do I need a sub, and if so where is a good place to mount that?

3)Where do you mount the battery switch?

I am quickly seeing that I m running out of space on this boat, and my patience is running thin! Can anyone share there setup with me or give me ideas where to put all of this stuff!

    Thanks!

I am in the same boat. Pardon the pun. We haven’t quite gotten to the point we are putting everything back together yet so I haven’t address this problem yet. If something works out for you please post it here. Otherwise I will do my best to help in a month or so.

      1) I cant help on an exact location, but a battery box or tray with hold down strap is a great way to secure a battery.

      2) no, but even a mild 10" woofer brings a huge amount of balance to a system, compared to just full-range speakers alone. Decide quick, then see if your JL dealer will swap that M400/4 for the M700/5. Not even swap, of course. Under the helm, for the woofer

      3) The length of the main starter cable is going to dictate where you can place the switch, unless you run a new, longer cable. Otherwise, somewhere somewhat accessible. Id like to keep the battery as short as necessary.

Hi Beamons and MLA...Enjoyed the PUN! I just feel a bit overwhelmed, when you are putting out type of investment you want everything perfect! The quality of the install and the aesthetics are just as important to me as the sound! I am in the acquiring mode too, waiting for some stuff to go on sale at crutchfields. The customer support is as important as the price...nice to be able to make a call to someone. Still too cold here in Cleveland to work on it anyhow. Trouble is I found my wife a 16' Lyman and if I get it it is just more work! I will sketch out what i am thinking of doing here in the next few days and see what you think! I love my 1999, she has the 285HP in her and runs like a champ. Iast year I just changed the electric choke part, and that makes for easy starts!

MLA...I was looking at that amp....now I have conceded the extra $150.00...How would you mount the sub under there? Do you have any pictures of an install you can share?? what about the head unit....any suggestions?

        Thanks guys!

          I run an 800 watt 4 channel amp (Polk PAD4000.4) with 4 Polk M651s.

It screams and has great sound quality (could use a little more base if you are a big base guy) but wasn't enough to warrant a sub taking up storage in the bow.

This works perfectly fine with one battery. If we are tied up I just fire the boat every 45 min or so and it's never left me stranded.

Probably would be even less worried about battery drain if I was running a dual purpose battery like a yellow top optima. It's a Ski Nautique not a V drive wake boat with space for subs/batteries.

Buy a small jumper box and keep it charged if you are that worried about batteries.

I am running three amps, one ten inch sub and two 8" tower speakers. I also have six cabin speakers all with one battery and the stock alternator. I do not sit in a cove and jam music for more than 30 minutes. By then, I restart and move on. When I first installed the system, I carried a jump box in my storage compartment just to be safe. I no longer carry it. Total system is 1200 watts.

I think that is what I am going to do....buy the amp in hopes of not needing it rather than having to look into another amp for a sub if I do; and trying one battery with the jump box on board in case of emergency! Space is tight!

Anyone here work with a jump box?

Head unit= I am a minimalist so I would suggest the wetsounds EQ with Bluetooth. Simple and does the job well.

So the sub is where your right knee would be when driving the boat...correct? Must be having a Blonde moment!

                    Thx
