    polk audio issues

New to PN, just bought my first Nautique, 2016 G23. In NJ hasn’t been in water yet, but learning everything while it’s on the trailer. I’m having issues with the audio, I have the JL speakers set up with the Polk unit. I have the Polk App and initially I will get a good connection then after a few minutes it will either completely cut out and no audio whatsoever or it will be intermittent throughout the speakers, changing from tower speakers to main speakers, to no audio. Today I had an issue where the App wasn’t doing anything to correspond with the unit. Couldn’t turn any audio on.

Does anyone know if this is an App issue? Do you always have to use the app? I even had an issue with the USB connected to my iPhone.

The boat sat for most of last year (only has 60 hours on it total), I’m thinking the batteries are a little low on juice but haven’t tested yet. Could that possibly be the issue? I am bringing it in to the dealership this week to get it ready for the season and will have them take a look but looking for any insight here. Thanks

    Brian

I need to know exactly which headunit you have. Is it the PA4A?

Ok the infamous PA4A. It has a pretty bad reputation and it can be difficult to live with but I learned a lot about it on my previous boat.

First of all, get your batteries charged. I can’t say there’s any specific problem with a low charge but that’s a variable we need to eliminate.

Next, get rid of the Polk app on your phone. It doesn’t help at all.

From the head unit (not the LINC) navigate through and find the list of Bluetooth devices. Delete all of them. On your phone, delete the PA4A.

Again from the head unit, pair your phone with the PA4A. Put your phone in Do Not Disturb. On the iPhone, this is swipe up from the bottom and tap the crescent moon icon.

Play some music. This should be working just fine. The trick here is to ALWAYS put your phone in Do Not Disturb when you’re out on the boat. If you forget this and a text or call comes in, it will most likely cause a Bluetooth disconnect that will require a full power off/on to get it to reconnect.

The USB connection is usually good. If you’re having problems here it’s most likely cabling. There is a connection behind the head unit. Crawl back in there and find it. Pull it apart and look for dirt or corrosion. If it all looks good, put it back together and wrap it with tape. If it’s still troublesome, try a different cable between your phone and the USB port in the glove box.

        That should get you going.

Thanks Charles for all the info, seems like these should be recalled, what a pain.

I deleted the Polk App and went to try and pair with my phone from the head unit (not Linc), the unit won’t even turn on unless I turn it on from the App. Even from the Linc screen I can’t turn any audio on, when trying it just says (Please wait...) did this ever happen to you?

I remember when I first turned on everything the Linc screen said something about having to download the app to use it, which I did.

If you cannot turn it on from the head unit, then it’s defective. Sounds like the front panel connection into the system is going bad.

I wouldn’t replace it with another PA4A. Get the JL Audio head unit instead.

Just an update, got the boat back last week from dealer, had both batteries replaced and so far no audio issues.
