Has anyone retro fitted the Polk Momo speakers in a pre 05 SAN, while achieving the same look as an 05.

I did mine. Not exactly the same fit as you see in the +05's, but still looks and sounds great. I think that the +'05 installs are pretty much flush with the vinyl, but I let my grills mount on top so that I didn't have to make any major modifications. While you're at it go ahead and upgrade the wiring as well if you're going to push them with amps. Not much more trouble and really worth it. The factory bow speakers are a B@#%$ to get out, so good luck. I completely redid all of my '04 SANTE's audio. Good luck. -

You have to remove the entire bow cushion section to get to the front. Mounting them was a big pain in the a$$. I utilized the stock plastic pieces that cc uses, but will eventually cut baffles out of mdf to make them more secure. The current mounting was only temporary for the 4th of july party, but have help up so far.Comment

What are these? I haven't looked up there yet. Did you have any problems mounting the Polk's where the Clarions and cloth grills were. I am thinking of putting in the new 7" Clarions if they will be easier to mount.Originally posted by bmh2208Comment

At every speaker there was a different length plastic (looked like pvc pipe) that was attached to the fiberglass board that the cushion is attached to. It is undersized about .5" in diameter and then screwed into the edge of the fiberglass board. The speaker then set into this pipe. When I redo the speakers, I will build up some baffles that are the exact diameter as the cutout in the fiberglass and the speaker. I have attached a pic. You can kinda see the white plastic piece. The length varies with the thickness of the padding on the cushion.

The Momo's are pretty heavy. In my 211 they are mounted directly to the very strong fiberglass interior (except the one at the drivers seat). I prefer the db675's over the Momo's for several reasons including weight, sound and cost. IMO the grills look better too.Comment

where the original cutout holes for the kicker speakers the same size for the momo's? or did you have to cut out more diameter?

I didn't go to the trouble of actually taking all the front cushions out to get to the speakers. Since I really didn't care how they came out, I just broke them to pieces and removed them. Mounting the new speakers wasn't a problem at all, getting the old ones out was the problem. I just used long enough screws that reached the fiberglass so that the were securely mounted. I did remove the rings that the factory cloth grills were mounted to and everything turned out great. I'm sure that I could have spent a lot more time and got them to look exactly like the '05 factory ones, but I was very pleased with the look I ended up with. I just purchased a 2004 SANLE that has all of the TE upgrades minus the belly ballast tank. I'm planning to redo all of my audio as well and like what I see here. The original owner fried the Clarion player with bad wiring so it was replaced with the brand new unit and remote by the dealer before I purchased the boat. I pick it up on Friday so I have not had a chance to really look in depth of what I am going to do with the sound. I'm in the Raleigh area. How much do you charge for your services? 8-)
