The impedance is about matching the woofer to the amp. For a 5 chnl amp like the dski has, it will deliver up to 420W rms to a 2 ohm, yet only 210W rms to a 4 ohm. So going with the most ideal impedance, netted 2X the wattage.

This is where its so important to have a retail outlet with product knowledge, that can field these questions and get you the proper driver so you get the most out of it.

Thanks. I'm generally familiar with the concept of speaker resistance and amp matching. You can correct my thinking.

My notes are that you get better SPL from a lower ohm speaker but - as you mention - you also need to have an amp that's capable of operating at the level. Most all amps run to 4 ohms but you have to be thoughtful when you start to get under 4 ohms. Also, when connecting more than one speaker on an amp channel you need to be thoughtful as it changes the ohm rating depending on what's the rating of the particular speakers you are connecting.

It used to be (i'm kinda old) that 4 ohms was the typical floor but today, you see a lot of stuff that will run at 2 ohms.

But whatever you do...don't just connect up any old stuff...have a plan and match your gear. (how'd I do?)

The driver's impedance has no bearing on SPL. Sound pressure level is all about moving air, which is a factor of the woofers surface area and excursion. Enclosure type also plays a large role in SPL. Most full-range amps are 2 ohm p/chnl stable, while a number of mono amps might be 1 ohm stable.

...and found a deal on the Infinity speakers and thought I would to my part to keep the economy going by purchasing. Should arrive next week. Only drag is that they are 5 hole speakers and so I'll have to do a bit of extra work to install.

Guy will take a $110 offer if you're so inclined. At that price for 4, couldn't pass them up. Buh bye chinesium speakers.
