Adding 2nd pair of JL 8.8 tower speakers

Greetings all, I just picked up my first G23 - a 2016. I am so EXCITED! Big change from my 26' Chaparral speedboat...surfed for the first time last summer behind a demo GS22 and was hooked. Anyway my GS has the two JL 8.8s on the tower with the Studio Elite package. I would like to replace the two JLs with 4 of the same thing but with the LED version to gain some extra sound and cool factor. I can see the wires in the locations for the 2nd pair so I am thinking it is already wired for a 2nd set. I am thinking I just need to run wire to power the led. I have wired a few car and boat stereos in my day but just looking for some input before I pull the trigger. Thanks for any help.

So I added a set of speakers to the tower of my 2016 200 Sport Nautique last July and would say I'm fairly good with the wiring on the tower now. This was what I found after downloading the wiring schematic and doing the installation....

The tower is completely pre-wired for both the speakers and the speaker lighting so you shouldn't need to run anything in the tower itself. To check your's first download your wiring schematic so you know the color of the wires needed and get an idea as to where the wiring connectors will be. The hard points (mounting locations) should have a hole near the hard point with a rubber plug to keep water. Pull the plug out and CAREFULLY pull the wires through the hole. At each hard point you could have a pair of cables for the speakers and a pair for the lighting. The lighting wires are cabled into the boat lights and will come on when you turn your lights for the boat on. So theoretically you should be good mounting your speakers, connecting the speakers to the amp and connecting the lights as well.

The next part may be very different for you that it was for me as I didn't have tower speakers before. On my boat the wires for the speakers were not run to where the amp was located behind the passenger seat but this may be because there were no speakers on the tower at all before. On my boat I had to find them under the gunnel behind the panel at the base of the tower. There was an inspection plate that I removed and was able to trace both pairs of speaker wire (my tower also supports 2 pair of tower speakers) and the power for the tower speaker lights. This is where have the schematic will really help. Not sure if you'll need to run the second new wire from there to the amp location or if you'll need to tie the power for the lights into the boat light circuit. Should be fairly easy to determine once you get that panel open and see what you have.

The schematic I had was pretty good and once I studied it I was able to figure it out fairly well. What will really help is the color coding for the speaker wire runs so you'll know which is left, right, inner and outer speaker cables. Not rocket science stuff but not as easy as I initially thought it would be either.

Thx for sharing BT...you got me over the hump. Not sure where to get a wiring schematic as it is not listed here or on Nautique support site. I did email Nautique directly to see if I can get a copy. Looking forward to seeing them all lit up at night.

Speaker wires should be green and purple and marine illumination should be blue and black.

I think you'll be safe with the 2011 Flight Control Tower diagram. That's the one I used and it was spot on.

Thanks again guys. Moving forward with the change out.. JL audio confirmed speakers on their website are the same as OEM. Will post some pics when finished.

are you sure? i thought the speakers were proprietary to Nautique.
What about the mounting brackets? Did you buy those from Nautique?

The tower is made by Roswell. In 2016 JL was the standard in boat speakers and JL tower speakers were an option. The JL's tower speakers used were the 770s and 880s. JL makes speaker mount adapters for their tower speakers to mount to the Roswell tower. These are the mounting adapters I purchased and used to mount my speakers to my tower.....

Per JL, Nautique may order a specific color for the tower speakers but everything else is the same. The (4) M6-880s w/ LED I just ordered are black with gunmetal grille. This is the exact match of the two I am taking off that do not have LED. I also ordered one set of speaker mount adapters hoping the existing work with my new ones. Thx again for the input. Anyone know where I can get covers for storage? Not seeing them on Nautique or JL websites.

That is correct. Nautique does order a specfic color on their JL speaker cans . Mine are all gunmetal color which is different then the black or white ones purchased directly from JL Audio. I had 2 7.7 JL Audio speakers and I added 2 more. I had to purchase the 2 extra JL Audio speakers off of this forum so I could have a color match. Yes I could have painted them to match but I didn't want to go that route. I found a new pair on this forum from a guy who was upgraded to larger Wetsound speakers on his boat.

Another tower speaker cover option is from SpeakerSoxs . I have them on my four tower speakers as well as on my board racks(only use during winter storage). They will logo the covers as well . I have been pleased with them.

If you have the elite package I think that sets you up with the 4 channel tower JL amp. I could be wrong on that but mine had the studio elite package with 2 tower speakers and the amp was already wired for all 4 to the tower. Just added the connectors on the tower wires and put RCA Y adapters on the amp to stereo connection so all channels got audio. Super simple. I ended up wiring the wetsounds LED rings to the same factory light wiring. Does a surprisingly good job lighting up the cabin for being rings.

were you able to get this diagram directly from Nautique or was their another means.

I'd love to see the wiring diagram on a an 18 up 230 with the power hydrogate, or a G boat with the linc panoray.
