New sound system for my 91 SN

Hi guys, I’m a first time owner of a 91 SN. I want to put a sound system in the boat. I have experience with sound systems and wiring them with vehicles, but ZERO experience with a boat. I want to do a 4 speaker system with a subwoofer. I’m looking for advice on quality products and also the specifics on amp, sub, and speaker - size, channel size, watts, etc.

if I’m missing more details, I apologize. Looking for any suggestions and advice.

    thank you!

6.5" is a very common in-boat size. At least a mild 10" woofer for rounding out the sound quality, or larger/more power handling if you are into more bass. For the woofer, I would avoid the off the shelf carpet covered MDF car boxes. They do not last long. You need a quality built enclosure thats going to withstand the marine environment.

Amp chnl wise, a 4 chnl will power 2 pair of in-boats and a 4 ohm woofer, but I would make the driver choices first, then choose the amp.

Brand wise, im very partial to Wet Sounds and Kicker. Been running their gear for about 13 years. Very trusted build quality. Both offer solid but budget value lines, as well as high end premium options, depending on what you are after.

Do you have any issues with your amps overheating? What’s a good 300w mono amplifier that you would recommend? As well as a 10” sub with enclosure that doesn’t take up much space

Very rare to see an overheating issue these days with class-D amps.

300W rms at what woofer impedance?

Look at www.exileaudio.com their stuff sounds good and the customer service is excellent. Here is a link to a wiring diagram from their site that might help you out.

I have an 02 SN similar to yours and I updated to a clarion CMD8. Running 4 Polk audio speakers (radio powered) with a PA 10” sub powered by Rockville amp. It sounds real good for not that much $$. If you have any question, I’m more then willing to explain more or post some pics. -Michael
