Exile digital media center in SV211

I’m upgrading the factory Clarion to an Exile media center so I’ve been playing around with 3D printing the mounting plate. The biggest challenge is getting it to match the original chrome look. I sanded it down and sprayed with primer / filler to prep for the chrome paint. Next step will be to wet sand then polish and hopefully that will give the desired finish. If that doesn’t work I’ll order some chrome vinyl wrap.

After wet sanding and buffing i am still not able to get the look of the factory plate so I ordered chrome vinyl automotive wrap. Hopefully I can get this project wrapped up by next weekend

PLA . I know it does not like moisture but it should be ok since I coated it in primer.

Here is how the mirrored chrome wrap looks. Its not close enough of a match to the keypad chrome so I’ll try another chrome wrap. If that doesn’t work I'll use a carbon fiber wrap to cover the keypad and ballast gauge panel too.

I don't think moisture will be your issue, deformation from solar heat could be a problem. I ran into problems with my PLA dash prints deforming when out in the sun...the print basically became pliable from heat/UV when the sun was ripping. My opinion now is that PLA works great for test prints but you want to consider PETG or ABS for your final prints.

Cool project BTW, what printer do you have? I have a basic Creality 3D.

You have a good point about the heat hopefully chrome wrap will help. I have never tried printing with PETG or ABS but might give ABS a shot if the PLA does't hold up. If I cant find a chrome wrap that matches the dash and end up going with a darker carbon fiber wrap then ill definitely need to try ABS. .

I am printing with the Ender 3 and using Cura to slice.

I don't mind at all I can try and post it this weekend and lave the link in this thread. Theirs so much empty space I think I should at least add a USB outlet or include a wireless phone charger but i'm open for suggestions. I also have the Exile zone controller that I am going to mount in the hole where the factory head unit goes if I make a 3D printed mount for that ill share it too.

Something like this for the wireless phone charger
