    G23 FM Radio Issue

So just got the new 2020 G23 out on the water and while playing with all the features I realize I am getting close to nothing in regards to reception on the FM radio. I looked at the antenna and it appears to go to a stud which leads me to believe the actual antenna is fiber glassed into the boat. Knowing nothing else, I have to wonder why the reception is so horrible. I am picking up stations in my car perfectly and get nothing but static from the same station in the boat. I have checked all the connections and they appear to be intact. Has anyone else had this issue? I am considering making my own FM antenna out of some cable and installing it myself. Yes I know most people stream music or use XM radio, but I would like to think a simple FM antenna should be functional on a $175K boat. Thanks for any help.

That wire with the ring terminal, is the antenna. That stud is likely a windshield screw. FM is line of site, so having an antenna 3 feet off the water and no aerial mast like a car, can be a challenge to get reception in some areas.

Good luck. On my last boat the stud went nowhere (and only secured the end of the wire) so I tried and had bad luck under the glove box with a powered fm antenna. I ultimately ran a fm antenna (wire) up the outside of the tower.

Yep, I'm with Scott once again. Good luck with FM on the water. Now guess why so many people use Sirius and internet based entertainment. Sorry it's the age old technology's issue. BTW if you paid $250K you'd still have the same problem.....

I have experienced the same FM radio issues on my GS24. Does the radio receive HD stations? Is it possible to select the additional HD channel's that some stations have on the same dial number that show up on my truck as 1 or 2 or 3 (example: 101.5 with channel options 1-2-3)?

Ha! We usually have a kid's playlist being streamed by BT, but sometimes you just want to listen to the game while hanging out in the boat. However, I have the exact same problem in my Nautique. No games are playing yet, but the radio reception is SO bad it's not an option. I have compared to a handheld radio on the boat on the water, and the JL reception is just much, much, much worse. I haven't had that issue on my other boats. I decided to give up and use the iHeartRadio app and access by BT for radio. We are loving the sound system, but the radio is pretty much nonfunctional.

look into a powered antenna, can help considerably. FM reception should not be an issue with a 2020 boat. warranty claim time
