We have a Clarion CMD8 stereo in our 2012 Super Air Nautique 230. It has 3 subwoofers and a total of 16 speakers (was upgraded by previous owner). We use a usb cable to play music from my iPhone. After about 30 or so it makes this loud sound, almost sounds like an airplane flying over, and we have to turn the radio off. Even if we let it rest for a while and turn it back on, it will do the loud sound thing again. Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening?

It's supposed to make loud noises when you turn it up!!!
I'm assuming you mean when the volume is turned up to 30 is when the noise starts... It could be distortion you're hearing... which is bad! Some more info about the components might help narrow it down, but I'm guessing you're at the distortion point of the system. I'm not completely sure about the CMD8, but most Clarion HUs I've seen go to about 33 volume so you're right at the top output. May just need some tuning of the gains to make sure you're not clipping.Jason

It does it only in usb. And we discovered today that it only does it when we are running the boat on the water. Sitting still I. The slip, it doesn’t do it. Wondering if it has something to do with the throttle. The radio is set to adjust the volume when we accelerate.Comment
