    Upgrading 2013 G23 6.5" Coaxials to 8"?

    Hey guys,

Hate to be that guy right now, but I've been looking around the forum for a walkthrough of someone upgrading their cabin coaxials from the 6.5" to 8" for a few days now (on and off) and just can't find what I'm looking for. It's probably somewhere..

Anyone done it themselves or had a shop do it and can share some of the details and/or images for their G23?

    Greatly appreciated.

No one's heard of anyone doin this? Must be harder than I thought lol. I found one post where someone mentioned that they could get a shop to do it cheaper than Nautique. That's all I've found so far so I'm assuming this is a pretty rare thing. No doubt that the 8" (or 7.7" JLs) make a HUGE difference in fullness inside the boat. I sat on a 2019 with all M6 770s and it was incredible. Thus my curiosity.

Thanks Smindustries this is helpful. Looks like they made custom pods (assuming fiberglass?) that mounted to the OEM locations. Looks like a LOT of work to go that route. But it also looks like it's the depth of the 8" speakers that's creating the problem, not necessarily the grilles. Wonder if spacers of some sort would work for the 7.7" speakers. In that article they did REVO 8s from WS

The molded "pod" the 6'5 is mounted in behind the grill, will not accommodate even a 7.7.

A buddy of mine had some custom pods built and 8" coaxials put in his 2014 G23 a few years back. Jon Bauer at Pro Installz mobile and marine in Paducah, Kentucky did his install. It sounded incredible

scottb7 I currently have 6 REVO 6s powered by WS HTX6 and love them.. That said, the difference between well-powered 6.5s and well-powered 8 inch speakers is pretty incredible.. So I'm really trying to chart a path towards that. But seems like this is a pretty heavy lift in terms of custom work so you may be right to call it a day with 6.5".

JRW160 thanks for the pics! Looks great and I'm sure they sounded incredible. Wonder if they have they still have the measurements/molds!

scottb7 Yea, i'm still considering the standard 6.5 replacement with a dedicated 6ch to power them properly and I'm sure that'll make a HUGE difference. I forget if the 'Polk' logo on the grilles are removable or not. If I put JL in there or something else I'd probably want to try to remove those hah.

Yeah, I asked wetsounds if they had a badge i could put there. But they said nope, they didn't have anything.
