Got my files on the usb thumb drive, hoping to update my (aftermarket) MM100S-BE later today. Will let you guys know how it looks! Supposedly will provide improved bluetooth preliminary connection

I just did mine.

You have to insert the USB stick BEFORE you power the LINC screen up. You can't just plug it in with the boat powered up, even if the head unit is off. It won't work.

I plugged it in, powered up the boat (did not power up the head unit), and the update started running. It took 2-3 minutes, just like the instructions say.

When it was finished, I removed the USB stick, powered off the boat, powered the boat back up, and tested the head unit.

All good!

Running v 3.7.81be18 followed instruction and no luck on it recognizing the thumb drive. Did notice my stereo comes on when I hit start button once to turn on link screen. Any assistance is appreciated.

if you look at the directions, unit with a more recent firmware you go through the menu, to diagnostics, then there is an option for update. my mm100s is from jl direct as of january this year, i had to do a different method than jeff listed above.

I did another boat (a GS20) the other day using my same method with no issues.

I have the same problem. I tried 2 different 1 GB USB drives, reformatted to fat 32, and it does not start the update. I think the version is 3.8something, and I definitely don't have the update option in the setting diagnostics. I can see the USB drive light up when the power comes on, but the stereo just boots up just like normal. Let us know if you find a solution. I tried all 3 USB ports thinking they might have been mixed up somehow on install, but nada.

JL support suggested I try another brand of USB thumb drive as there have been some limited cases in which the read speed of certain drives do not allow the update to work. They also suggested that I plug the USB drive into the USB connection dongle at the rear of the MM100s source unit instead of through an externally mounted USB extension panel. I haven't tried any of this yet, but I thought I'd post just in case someone else wants to try it.

Wondering if this update corrects a terrible hissing sound coming from the cabin speakers? (This came about sometime after our 25 hour service). It is not alternator wine...hissing is there regardless if engine is running or not and doesn’t change with rpms. Local dealer hasn’t been able to correct yet

It will NOT fix that. That's a ground loop induced noise or a grounding issue. Your dealer needs to have the boat looked at by a stereo shop or something similar. Some amount of it is normal.

happy to report that trying a different brand of USB drive did the trick. I have no idea what the difference was, but the “new” one (a used one We had laying around) worked just like it was supposed to.
