2001 Nautique Annivery Ski stereo advice

Need some advice....replacing the skins on all of my upholstery including the. combs. So figured it was time to replace the speakers and need some advice:

The current speakers have a cloth screen type of cover that needs replacing. I was wondering if I could just use the speaker covers versus replacing the cloth like screens and just screw them into rings that then fit into the holes?

Second looking for speakers and tower speakers that are decent but won't break the bank...any suggestions?

I would first check the condition of those existing speakers. This will likely factor in to the route you go. Many of todays speaker offerings, have a grill mounted tweeter, so the grill is affixed to the speaker. Second, for the sake of looks, I dont think you will like what you see if you retained the rear loaded speaker and mounted a front loaded traditional open style speaker grill.

Personally, I like to take the opportunity during a re-skinning, to front load the speaker recessed into the foam and vinyl with new speakers. Makes for a really good look.

thanks for the advice. The speakers are original so I was thinking of getting rid of the old rear mounts. Now just have to find the size of speaker that fits.

If their original they're toast. MLA is spot on with his recommendation IMO. Now is the time to figure out the conversion and make the switch to surface mount speakers. Tons of product out there on sale for the season too although I didn't much of anything JL or Wet Sounds come up this season. I know Exile had a sale and you can get about any other brand at a discount as well.
