    Replacing stock double can speakers

Looking to replace my double can tower speakers. Have heard that it will decrease the weight of tower making it easier to fold and also better sound depending on speaker choice.
I have a 2007 220 SANTE. How/what is the wiring setup for stock tower speakers. The stock tower cans are a plug system. Does this wiring need to be re run or can it be used with. A single speaker setup?

On a 2007, id consider pulling new wire, and in a gauge thats appropriate for the new setup.

Right now, I think each pod is a 2 ohm load at the amp.
