Finally going to update the stereo in my 04 196. I already purchased a Clarion M608 head unit and a 8 pin to 6 pin adapter to hopefully be able to use the factory wired remote. That saves buying the MW1 and the round bezel. What does everyone recommend for a mide grade 6.5, don't really want to spend the money on Roswell R1's or JL M3's but will if that's what everyone recommends. Would like to stay in the $150-$200 range per pair though. Next I have attached a picture of I believe the factory amp unless it was added by the previous owner. Could I power one pair off the amp and one pair off the head unit? Or do I need to buy a 400x4 for the 6.5s. Thinking of adding a sub and 4-500 x 1 for that but not sure on the sub yet. Here is the pic of the old amp currently in the boat. Thanks for any help.

In that price range, the Kicker KM654 would be my first choice. My 2nd choice would be the new Clarion CMSP-651. With JL's influence in Clarion now, the CMSP is M3'ish but at a lower price point.
Thats a 2 chnl amp, so it can driver all 4 of your speakers. However, that amp is likely 17-18 years old, so id replace it anyway. A woofer would be a nice compliment, so id plan for that now, and go with a 5 chnl amp. One install, one set of power cables, run all your needed RCA the first time. Makes adding the woofer later, nearly plug n tune.

Just to update. I did the M608 which is essentially plug and play. The holes from the old CMD3 were wider, so I filled the holes and placed a carbon fiber vinyl piece outlining the M608 to cover the holes. I did the 6 pin to 8 pin adapter to keep my old oval remote, to save from buying the bezel, and the MW1. It works for volume and skipping tracks, but no display which I can live with for the $400 cost savings. I did the KM654's with RGB lighting with the kicker RGB controller, running them off of a kicker 360.4 amp. Also added a kicker comp r sub off a kicker 800.1 amp, with the kicker remote bass knob. Install was a little time consuming, running all new 6 wire speaker wire with the RGB's, but overall I am very happy with the finished install, for a reasonable priced upgrade.
