    Speaker corrosion

Hi, I have a 2013 G23 and the speakers are suffering a little. Is is worth refurbing them as some sort of paint shop or best to just replace? Click image for larger version

You can put lipstick on a pig.............................

Seriously though. Yes, you could pull everything apart, strip the coating and have them re-powder coated and they'd look good. But at the end oft he day, you still have four 6.5" HLCD's. I would consider just pulling the four OEM pods and putting up two or four larger pods, like an 8" or larger for better sound quality.

DMS2610 I just replaced the speakers in the housings with the 6x9 wetsounds and they sound great while keeping the head room. These older towers are a little lower then the newer towers. An 8" speaker in a can it will be fairly large so keep that in mind.

I highly recommend the wetsounds 6x9 though and you can also get 4 of them to replace the speakers for the price of 2 8" speakers typically.

Until you factor in the cost to strip and powder coat the old pods.

MLA Ill be doing mine this winter so hopefully let you know. Stripping them myself though so that will save a little cost. I cant see powdercoating them being more than $200 though. I also plan to do the tower a solid color but I need to talk the wife into that one.

So I stripped mine and what a mission that was….drilling heads off, using easy outs and stud extractors. But I had them acid dipped and powder coated and rebuilt them. I used Tiger Seal, a PU sealant adhesive same sort hold your windshield in with so they won't be coming apart any time soon

That looks great!! Did you keep the factory speakers or did you upgrade anything? I still plan to redo mine but I have about 15 other projects ahead of the boat currently.

I kept them standard. I figured I’ve spent enough refurbishing the boat since it’s had new interior and floor and the crazy expensive Triton V2 board racks. My bank account already needs to go for counselling

                    How do those pods sound?
You can buy a lot of paint for the price of replacements, you don't necessarily need to go the powder coat route. You can do some pretty amazing things with a good quality rattle can and some 3m fine line tape, 90% of it is in the preparation.
I liked Lockem25 mention of headroom, at 6'4" I'll take every fraction of inch clearance I can get, and I'll still hit my head.

You’ll see from the pics that they sit above my Bimini so sizing doesn’t change headroom. I’m 6ft6 so have to duck often lol. As the boat has had a full refit on interior trim and seadek I thought the powder coat would give equal longevity to the rest of the refurb. If you check my posts you can see what I have done to the interior

****, I hit my head a lot at 6'2". I feel for you guys. My 5'0" wife would love to hit her head on things, though.

Scooter G I put the wetsounds 6x9 in mine and I love it. They are so crisp and much louder than the factory ones that came with the boat.

I also swapped the z5 bimini to the bifold because of how low the older towers were and that bimini was super low. Wouldnt change it for anything with how I have it now.

Also if anyone needed a Z5 bimini and canvas thats in pretty decent shape I do not need it anymore its just at our boat storage. Frame is hanging up and canvas is boxed up at our house so it doesnt get dirty with cobwebs or anything.
