Dual Batteries in a 206

Has anyone put a second battery in thier 206? It looks like either the floor storage in front of the battery box or maybe in the center of the bow are the best options, already have sub and amp under observers seat storage area.

I am planning on using (2) optimas however would prefer to keep the 2nd upright if possible.

I installed 2 optimas side by side (upright) in the original location in the center of the bow on a 216. I had to remove the batt. tray which I didn't think was necessary for the optimas.

I will be doing this very project this winter in my 06 206. I will keep you posted with the results. I'm looking at installing the second battery under the observer seat with the stereo amps. I have plenty of room since my sub is located behind the kick panel on the driver side.

Did you or the dealer move the factory sub behind the kick panel? I was wondering if I could do that, it just looks a bit tight with the heater and all the wiring back there. It would be nice to get some of that space back from under the observers seat. Are you adding (1) or (2) batteries?

Steven, I'd love to see some pictures of your sub installation behind the kick panel if you have any. I'm planning on putting a 10" sub back there too, but I'm concerned about the fit due to the shiftcables and bilge pump lines running right through the middle of the space.

Quinner what are you running that you feel like you need two batteries for? Do you play the stereo alot while the engine is off? or just looking for extra security of two batteries?

Not that it would match up to the 206, but I moved my factory sub to the kick panel in my 210. That was one of the best things I have done to the boat. The sound is better, and it opened up a TON of space under the observer's seat.

My dealer relocated the factory Team Edition sub to the driverside kick panel. It fits fine but is snug (I do not have a heater). The sub does not interfear with any components in the new location. I am not sure of the size of the sub, I believe it's approx. 12+ inches square. You can contact Phil @ Buxton Marine to get the details as they did the relocation.

I do not have any pictures of the sub in the new location but if you need them I can remove the kick panel and take some.

I will install an additional battery in my 206 for a total of 2 batteries.

No need to remove the kick panel to take a picture, I was just wondering how a sub with a box will fit back there, but I can mock up a box with some cardboard and test fit it. When I'm done I hope to have no evidence of the sub in the boat - except bass, of course.....

I was not planning on adding a second battery -that's why this thread is interesting to me. I'm wondering if I should.

I currently have the factory setup - sub + amp + 6 polk speakers, that does wear the battery down if we play music for too long without starting. Picked up a pair of NVS Tyrants for the tower + another amp, once installed I will need at least one more battery, may add two if the location allows.

Jeff, can my sub come out of the factory enclosure and install like yours if the space allows?

It can. Mine never had an enclosure. In 2003, the subs were just mounted to a carpeted board under the observer's seat. There are probably better ways of mounting it than what I did (from a sound perspective), but mine still sounds 100 times better now than it did under the seat.

I wondered if you had to have an enclosure with your sub mounted in the kick panel. I guess it is enclosed enough under there to make it work. Anyone else have their sub in the kick panel w/out an enclosure?

Not sure if there is room in a 206, pretty sure this would work in a 210. The space in front of the driver in a 211 is cavernous, probably enough volume for 2 - 12s if you were creative. Here is what I did with mine.

With batteries weighing about 50lbs each you want to consider their effect on your wake. If you add 50lbs in the front it will help to flatten the skiing wake, if you add in the back it will make your boarding wake steeper. If you use an optima you don't need a bulky box.
