    Stereo Upgrade 2000 Sport

Not looking to blast over the lake just something to use with MP3 players. What I was looking at was the clarion M455 with some Polk speakers and have some questions.
1)I have the Stock Clarion Stereo, will the M455 one just plug right in?
2)What size speakers are the best to replace the current ones?
    3)Should I run an amp ?

    1) I believe your current deck is the M5675, in which case it uses the same plug as the M455 (although the M455A is the now current model and still uses the same plug.) If you have any remotes, they will work just fine with the exception of the mute button in AM/FM mode.

    2) You will want to get 6.5" Polk MOMOs so that would be either the MMC650 for co-ax applications of preferably the MMC6500 separates.

    3) An amp would be a great addition but not a necessity. If you do go for an amp I highly recommend either Clarion or JL.

Ok so I started by changing the speakers. The first 3 took about 15 minutes, however when I went to change out the one by the drivers feet I thought it was best to stop. Can anyone tell me the best way to get to that speaker? I think I will need to pull that panel. If so how do I do that? I see a screw in the try and the one by the driver’s knee. What else do I need to remove that panel?

      Thanks

I am trying to get the covers off of the original speakers in my '01, is there a secret to getting them out. As I try to work around the cover, I feel like I am having to work too hard compared to getting the first three done in 15 minutes.

I beleive you have the same panel as my 2000SN. The speaker grill is cloth and right at your right knee. If so Get ready.. Remove the screw you see at your right knee. You now have to remove the coming pad on the drivers side. That is the 6' long bolster that the rear speaker is in. It is removed by loosening the 8 nuts and washers attaching it to the rail. Then remove the dash pod. Once these are removed you will see 2 screws each in the front and back. Next remove the cup holder and reach inside you will be able to feel 2 nuts similiar to the coming pads I think one is on each side. Now reach up from behind the panel behind the drivers seat. Oh yea remove that to. You may have to slide the stereo out or reach around it to get the other 2 of the 4 nuts and washers that hold the panel to the rail. One final screw is in the bottom of the panel going down into the floor. Remove that and you should be able to get the panel off. The speaker is srewed into the ring around the grill. Or... just replace 3 of the 4 speakers. All kidding aside it should only take about an hour including the bolster and seat.

Rick, it's Kevin from right down the street. I got three of them in today, but I am going to wait on the one under the driver's seat until I have more time to dive into this. I am not the quickest when it comes to these changes.

              Thanks for the help.

                Rick-
My name is Mitch up here in Oregon and I just bought a 2000 SN yesterday. I see that you have the same boat. I thought I'd ask your email address in order to ask a question from time to time. My new boat has an extra amp and subwoofer installed which according to the original owner, drain the battery down after using the stereo for more than an hour with the engine off. I have a Sears Diehard battery in it. It does not say deep cycle anywhere on it. It appears to be a regular car battery. I am wondering if I should upgrade to an Optima? Thanks for your help. Mitch

                  2000 SN graphics (Rick)

                  Hi again Rick-
I see that your 2000 SN has graphics applied over the big "N" on the sides. That looks a lot better than without them. Did you add those yourself or was that an option when it was new? i would be intterested in doing the same on my boat. Mitch
