I Pod Compatible Stereo System

I have a clarion CD receiver and I am not sure if it is stock(second owner) but I want to make it Compatible for the I Pod. Not sure the best route to take. Not totaly against updating but mine works fine. Sugestions???

I'm assuming you have the Clarion XMD3 or CMD4 source unit.

You have several options

a) You can go the wireless route which transmits via the FM receiver. I use a product called DLO TranspodFM from - www.dlodirect.com It is an Ipod Charger also. All you need to do is tune your Clarion source unit to a specific FM channel and tune your DLO unit to the same channel. This is perhaps the easiest and fastest, but Not the BEST audio quality because of additional noise/interference that the source picks up.

b) Clarion now makes these ipod adapters. For XMD3 you can use the Clarion EA1251 that plugs to the source unit and your ipod. It also charges. I've seen units on ebay sell for $50.00 to $75.00 If you have the CMD4, then the Clarion EA1276 ipod adapter is what you will need. These ipod adapters requires minimal work and a simple plug of a cable from the back of the unit then you are good to go. I haven't tried it but this is probably the cleanest and best sounding of both options. Plus, you will have "some" ability to control the ipod through your Clarion source unit.

So, if I have the XDM3, Sirius, and a 6 disc cd changer can I get the Clarion EA1251 as well?

Or do I have to remove one or the other to get it to work - i.e. will I need a splitter, or is there a passthrough on the cd player?? It'd be really nice to have it charge directly off of that thing instead of using RCA's and the cigarette plug in.

Nevermind, their Y-adapters cost just as much, if not more, than the Ipod connector...weak!

No need to remove or unplug any of the accessories. If you have mutiple connections like cd changer and sirius, I think you will need the Y adapter. The Clarion CCA519 splitter is what Clarion recommends. I got this information from the Clarion EA1251 install manual.

If you have an '03 SAN, as your username states, you have an XMD-1, and really need to check out this thread. I did this modification on my boat and it is wonderful!

I think your radio has rca inputs on the back. You can buy a cable with 2 rca's on one end and a jack on the other that plugs into the top of your Ipod.

I have the XMD but not sure if it is the 1 or 3. They both look the same to me.

If you have a 2003, it should be an XMD-1.

No, the XMD-1 does not have RCA inputs, but you can add them like this.

Jeff- can I buy yours? I am an idiot when it comes to electronics and your new boat will come with a compatible system? Just a thought!!!!
