    Alternator power

Can someone confirm how much power the alternator puts out on the '04 TEs? I heard 70-80 W--all I know is that they upgraded them to 100 W in '05....

I'm just wondering this b/c we're thinking about upgrading to HLCD speakers, either NVS or probably WetSounds, and the amp that these require will obviously pull much more power, possibly 750+ W if i'm correct...

Lastly, I've heard that after spending all the $$$ on the speakers, amp, etc... you'll probably need to invest in a better alternator b/c the amps will be too powerful for the stock one...

Is this true? I've heard both extreme Yes's and No's... thanks in advance...

I think you are confusing watt with amp. Latest I heard, 05 and up should have 100A Alternators.

According to the '04 manual the alt is either rated at 70 amps or 100 amps. I believe the majority of '04s have the 70 amp model.

Yeah, thanks... i meant amps i guess... sorry

but still, is that enough for what the powerful "horn" amps require?

I was quoted just over $300 for the 100amp alt upgrade for my boat, and the way I looked at it was it's better to be safe than sorry.

            I'm running a pair of NVS Entity's off of a PPI 4125 (so 500wx2 bridged), a JL 500/1 amp, and a MTX 564.

So I'm just going to go with two Optima blue's and a hellroaring BIC-95300A - thus, one starting battery, and the other battery will run the goods.

If you're only running one battery it would be wise to upgrade the alternator, just my opinion. But if you plan on adding more goodies into the boat you're going to have to upgrade anyway, so why not just get it over with now and buy the larger alternator?

capacitors are like bandaids, they aren't a very good "sure fix"
a capacitor on a weak system will eventually lead to a dead battery

The alternator is the only thing on your boat that makes electricty. Batteries are a long term storage device, Capacitors are a short term storage device.
I thought all the Excaliber PCM motors had a 100 amp alternator on them, but I have been wrong before.

Andrew is right. A capacitor on a weak system can lead to a dead battery. But still, a capacitor can really help with those low end bass in the boat. Expecially if you only have 1 or 2 batteries on a long cable (+3ft)...
