Old Fart - Instructional Audio and Video

    Alright Everybody.....looking for suggestions.

Background: Age 43! (no old fart jokes...I started it didnt I). I am a retired audiofile (i.e. I got married and had kids) so I appreciate a good stereo in a home or studio...hard to do in a boat. For you audiofiles guys I have a pair of Carver's original Silver Seven T's and Amazing Loud Speakers and will soon be upgrading to a Sunfire (dont tell my wife).

Boat: 04 Nautique 216 LE - stock stereo (cheap Old fart, see below)

NEED: Tower speaker system......mostly for the PA so I can talk to the kids (I have 5, thus have to put all five through college) while they are learning to wakeboard, ski, etc. (no tubes) and listen to music when swimming between sets.

I am looking at the Infinity Speaker, amplifier and PA package. Anyone have one?

    Anyone have any other suggestions.

NEED: Portable DVD system....so I can keep "The Book" on board and review it after and before a set. Will be installing a Hi 8mm video recorder with tower mounted camera to record sets and critique.

Anyone have any suggestions on a portable DVD player w/screen? Besides the Sony a Hi8mm recorder with screen? Or just players with a screen that will work for both. Someone had one under an observers seat.

Ok.....Lets see what we can come up with (remember money is AN object)

I'll be honest.. i thought this would be about someone/something else when i saw the subject..

infinity is the only company i've seen showing off a PA system w/ their speakers. I think it MIGHT be easier to just get good speakers, not worry about setting up a PA system incorporated into it, and then get a bullhorn...

I've seen some guy with a DVD setup like u describe. I didnt see it work, but he said he could hook up a camera to the tower and use the screen instead of the mirror. If you look carefully in the pic just above and to the left of the dash, you will see what setup I'm talking about... his dVd player was located in the footwell

Copy your dvds to your ipod. If you really want a dvd player screen there are some installs with them behind the mirror. I think Wakeworld screen name "G" has them in carbon fiber. He mentioned that someone makes them cheaper in plastic

I have the Infinity system with the PA. Personally, I love it. Its great for coaching and communicating with your skier/rider/friends on shore... Its plenty loud and clear for sitting on the sandbar or on a beach. It is not quite enuff for a rider to clearly hear music 75-80 ft out (PA is loud enough). I am 3 on the 1-10 audiophile scale.

Wow. You might want to ask your kids before you invest. I have a 15 yr old and 11 yr old and if I ever "coached" them over a PA system it would be the last time they got on the boat with me. With my 15 yr old, even a quiet remark or two other than "nice set" draws a dirty look. I can't imagine asking him to have a quick look at an instructional video before hopping in the water.

            Matt,

Totally agree with you, particularly if they have a friend on the boat as well! Have to think that system could be fun for yelling at your buddies if they are not hitting it hard enough though!

Your in Naperville, I grew up in Downers Grove, live in the North Burbs now, where do you ski?

I have to admit I was couldn't imangine why someone would want an instructional video about a natural bodily function. Yellow_Flash_Colorz: Grant on this forum and Club Mike have awsome stereos on their boats. I hope they weigh in on this. I would also suggest you try Wakeworld's forum although it can get a little contentious at times.

                Chris:

We keep the boat at Wonder Lake. If you are in the North burbs you probably know where it is (I'm surprised that a lot of folks have never heard of it).

                  Matt,

Sure do know Wonder Lake, have some friends who used to Ski on the team there. Drop me a PM if your ever looking for a different place to ski, we are on Deep Lake in Lake Villa, not too far from you.
