The ALPINE IDA-X001. Doesn't even have a CD slot so no more lost, scratched CD's in the boat. Hook up your 5th Gen Ipod and toss it in the glovebox. Full controls at the deck. I should have it in the next couple of days and then it goes in the boat before the amps get tuned and ready for the new season. I'll post pics when I get it but here's a pic and a link for now:

No CD slot at all? I'm afraid that even as an iPod owner I don't see the benefit of that - at least not yet.

And before you celebrate too much, you don't expect this to be a seamless and direct replacement do you?

Because it won't be. I think you have some fabrication work ahead.

While I am a huge fan of the iPod, I still like having a CD player. However, that said, I have only used my CD changer once in two years......
I just helped a friend install an Alpine 9883 in his Pro Air this last weekend. That is a nice deck. full iPod and satellite radio control on the deck itself. front, rear, and sub pre-outs. It also has a nice filter system built into it. was $199 plus the iPod control cable at $29.

Fabrication work? Not sure what you mean...its a single DIN deck. Same as the one its replacing. Yes, I think its going to be a seamless and direct replacement.

As for the CD player, I haven't used mine in two years and when I did, it just resulted in lost and scratched CD's. I personally haven't touched a CD in two years and don't think I'll miss it.

Finally, addressing the IPOD control on the 9883. It works but its slow. This deck has a USB input to allow it to connect digitally to the fifth-generation iPods. The digital connection results in a transfer rate of 480Mbps as opposed to the 9883's digital-to-analog iPod adapter's paltry 19.2 kbps. HUGE difference here.

Who knows? I might hate it. . . or I might not

That Alpine unit is sweet. I pod only is cool, I dont see that as beeing a down side. I guess its all how you use your Head unit. A guy that dosent own a I pod would see Rock Toys HU as down side. Someone like myself who only plays Ipod see;s it as cool. I just bought a New alpine HU DVA-9861 its a DVD MP# Cd player With I pod control via Alpines Fastlink conector cable. It allows you to opperate the I pod threw the Head Unit, However I dont like the way it does it so I chose to hook The i pod up threw the AUX imput and charge unit that Alpine sells that way you can use the I pod the way it was intended. (NOT threw Alpines menu)

Question Does your new unit allow or have a Video Imput or out put . Will videos on your I pod play threw the screen.

For a remote for your Alpine check out the Alpine/AKA the " I rock remote". I just instaled one in my boat. Works threw FM signal no wires.

          P.S I got your E-mail call call about a Install in your Pro Air 650 533 4960

Sweet....a waterproof remote that actualy floats Did you mount yours or is it loose in the boat? It apparently has a 100 foot range. Sweet...controlling the tunes from the beach or even better, lace it into your wakesurfing handle so that you can control the tunes when surfing Here is a pic:

As for the video out, it does not have a video in but it does support WMA playback. I am sure the next generation will have outs as well...

I'll call you later to discuss the boat work.

This is my Remote holder. I made it with Epoxy. Its in white primer as you see it but it will be red like the boat. The remote will be held in the holder via Velcro so you can take it out with ya.

Hmmm, you make more than one of those units? I have been super busy but will be calling you this week, Grant.

I finally got the deck in on Friday. Its SWEET. I have some great ideas as to how to customize the USB input, etc. Stay tuned for updates.

I have that unit in my truck and absolutely love it! I have my entire CD collection on 2 ipods so I have no need for a CD player at all. I plan on installing that deck in my boat as well. I hadn't seen that remote though! I'll be looking into getting one as well!

That looks sweet man, enjoy. I usually only use my ipod but some people like to bring there own cd's when they're boarding so I would still like some form of CD integrations. One question, does that keep the ipod charged?
