2004 SAN Wiring Stereo & Batteries

OK, I know the wiring schematic and even though I have reviewed it I will ask this out loud in hopes of getting an answer.

I have two batteries and use a perko switch (1,2,All,None). One the one battery there are the primary wires that go to the engine and then one positive wire that seems to be connected to the bilge over ride switch.

I would like to have all stereo related items to come off of battery two, of which I connect directly. Is this out of the norm? If I have it on battery 1 and punch in my code and hit start - it activates everything - including the stereo. BUT - how can I arrange it so that all stereo related elements come from one battery (2)?

RE: 2004 SAN Wiring Stereo & Batteries

your stereo head unit is wired in with the accesories - you can punch the code and give "life to the boat" without starting - when the head unit is energized you send a 12volt signal to the amps (remote turn on) that turns the amps on - would think you would have to completely separate the two batteries from the switch - you would need the alternator to still charge the second stereo battery but do some serious rewire - then the stereo would have to be manually turned on and off - I think you would even be bypassing the overall "kill switch" the toggle not the red cord - if you forgot to turn off the head unit at the end of the day the stereo battery would go dead - am running 4 amps - two factory clarion (480 & 280) along with a kicker 750.1 and 850.4 - the switch stays in the both position at all times and the stereo plays for several hours without any hesitation at startup - I have gone three to four hours without starting no problem with the volume at a fairly high level - personally I would say it would be out of the norm to be considering the separation of the batteries

Thank you, not always easy to say your crazy but you did a nice job - smile. I am curious as to how many batteries you have? two, three? and I suspect from your post that you do have separate start and stereo batteries using a relay to charge them all maybe?

factory 06 210 SANTE - two factory batteries - factory alternator - factory battery switch - you get the idea - all factory except for the additional two amps (750.1 and 850.4) I have put a load test on the batteries after three hours use of stereo time ( not running engine) and had minimal voltage drop - pushed the code and fired the boat as usual - the two kicker amps are connected to the same battery - does not really matter though - two batteries in parrallel just gives 12volts for a longer period of time - pick a bettery and connect - put one amp on one battery and another amp on the second - the load is what is is - the batteries have no idea
