    Are my WetSounds setup correctly?

I have a pair of WetSound Pro 80's powered by a MTX TE604 amp, a 10" Infinity sub powered by another MTX amp ( I forgot). Is this an amp that will really powerup the speakers because it seems not only like it has too much treble but it seems like they don't throw the sound like they should.

RE: Are my WetSounds setup correctly?

typically you want to match the rms of the amp to the speaker - the wetsounds pro 80 are rms 200 watts 4ohms- your mtx amp is 300 watts rms at 4ohms bridged - you should have plenty of power if not too much that could possibly damage the speakers - you should check all the settings on the amp such as gain and bass boost - you should have the crossover on them dialed to around 120hz - you dont want these playing that much low end bass - check the settings on your head unit as well - where is the bass and treble set on that?

Thank you for the feedback and I will check it tonight on the water. I am curious since you mentioned adjustments at the amp. IS it better to adjust the treble and bass from the head unit or amp? or did I misunderstand. It's good to know that I have enough power because I was thinking of adding another MTX amp (of the same size) and getting two more Pro 80's or a single 485 or something like that.

There is a base line way of setting the controls on the amp - cant remember as of right now - I believe mikeski stated them in a diferent post - maybe he will se this and respond - I turn all the amps controls down to zero and set the head unit to what I think is a good starting point - CDM4 head unit at bass 3 and treble 4 - then turn the volume on the head unit to around 20 (sems to be a pretty loud number) at that point I start with each amp ( cabin speakers and tower first - adjusting the gain and bass boost to get sound I like without distortion - then the sub amp - bring it in to a level without vibrating all the nuts loose on the boat - so to answer the question about the settings from the head unit - yes it is better to set them from the head unit - the amp controls are there to even out the system - for instance if the bow speakers are on the head unit they will distort very early with the smallest amout of head unit bass - so if you turn down the head unit bass you need to compensate with bass gain on the sub amp or better yet get the bow speakers on an amp

Try setting the tower amp in full range and setting the deck controls flat. I run my 485's in highpass at 100hz. The thing to keep in mind is that higher frequencies project better so they will always sound a little bright out on the water. They are also over powering the sub, having two 12's does a good job of keeping up with the 485's in the boat.

This year I started running a MaxxBass unit on the tower amp, I am quite happy with the result. Might not be for everybody but it works for me. I seem to get more positive compliments on the tower speaker's sound since installing the MaxxBass.
