Pics of problem, need advice (speakers)

I was changing speakers on my 93 sport and I came across a problem where I have too large a magnet to fit against the vynal. I guess I need to know if I can cut out the 3.5" to clearance for the magnet in the side fiberglass. Will I want to reenforce it in that area or will it not be a problem to cut it there. As soon as possible would be great

Not a solution but I wonder if that is why they moved the speaker down in my 94 Sport? Sound wise it is better where you have it. How close is it? Could you push the speaker out at all?

Not an expert and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express, but I don't see why you couldn't cut the fiberglass out and I don't see why you would have to reinforce it.

I cut them out of my boat. You could use wooden or nylon spacer rings between the vinyl and backing of the pad to space the speakers out. That would be easiest. Any auto speaker installer can get them for you. They are around $9/pair.

I cut them out on mine and didn't reinforce. Never had a problem.
