I am using a Blaupunkt PA2150 tripath amplifier. Between the boat, car, & truck I have 7 of these amplifiers in use. They are small, run efficient, run cool but nothing to look at (which suits me perfectly).

At first they were wired in stereo, 8 ohm load on a 2 ohm stable amp, probably seeing about 75 watts each. The amp blew first time out. Yesterday I changed the amp out and changed the wiring to mono so the amp sees a 4 ohm load and produces about 450 watts. It works much better but they might be able to handle more. When/if the second amp blows I will step up to something a little more beefy.

I am an e-bay junky and saw the used Evids pop us with a $250 buy-it-now and I grabbed them. The Blaupunkt amps run about $90 on e-bay so I can afford to blow one or two. I used 4 conductor pro audio speaker wire (13 gauge) and it works/looks very clean (wires run inside tower legs). This is probably the best sounding boat system for what I have into it.

Haven't seen any more Evids on e-bay since I bought mine, but they are available new from internet suppliers for about $370, mine were used once at some kind of outdoor event. With Raul's clamps and wirecovers you are still under $500. Much more effective then trying to build some big bulky monolith box.

I know this post hasn't been posted to since July... but I am curious what everyone recommends for tower speakers.. I have ordered an '05 SV211TE with the Tower pre-wired.. but didn't get the tower speakers (ie. ~$1000 option)... any suggestions like the ones above.. I assume that those "10 available" were long gone in July!

      Thanks,

Sorry, it's been a while since I checked this thread...

I run my Evids off a Blaupunkt PA-2150 bridged in mono with the speakers wired together (parallel). It does pretty well but a stronger amp would probably get much more out of the speakers. The thing I like about this amp is that is much more efficient than most class A/B amps so it is easy on the stock electrical system. The downside is that I recently had troubles with 2 of these amps (not in the boat, I have 6 of these amps in various vehicles).

The Evids I bought off E-bay were used but work and look like new. AudioAllies <www.audioallies.com> sells them for $338/pr, the best price I have seen. Another pair just sold off e-bay for $202, somebody got a deal. I use Raul's clamps available from www.80feetout.com or http://www.precisionmetalworksinc.co.../page0003.html. Use a square washer inside the speaker.

One of the best things about these speakers is that they only weigh 12#s each so tower folding is not a backbreaker...

          Deuce,

The NVS system is by far the best thing going. I rode behind Duane's "NVS Air Warrior" with his 1010s speakers. On a windy day riding at 24mph they are loud and clear, clear enough to hear the music details not just follow along with a song that you already know. The Evids are pretty good and some 4 - 6x9 boxes are nice too. Comparing NVS to other systems is like comparing a good home stereo to your laptop speakers.

Expensive, but word is...they are AMAZING. This is word of mouth, I have never heard them in person. If I was in the market, I would take a good look at these.

I know this is an old post, but I have an opportunity to get a pair of these EVIDs for a decent price, but in researching this forum it seems that everyone who had them has gotten rid of them and upgraded to the NVS or something similar. Were they that bad? and would anyone recommend them - I currently have no tower speakers and no sub, and no amp - just the factory XMD1 with 6 clarions. I was thinking of adding a 5 or 6 channel amp to drive the cabin speakers and a single 12" sub and a separate amp for the EVIDs. But I could do with out the tower speakers for now if I should pass on the EVIDs because they suck or some other reason eveyone seems to be getting rid of them. Any thoughts?

              - Both Fatboy and Mikeski have had them and moved up to something else from what I can tell from this archive of old posts.....what are your ideas on them?

I still have them and still love them. I moved them to my new boat. They work for me.

The Evid's are a great simple solution for tower speakers. If you overpower them the tweeters will blow. When I sold my 196 the Evids went with it, I built my own speakers for my 211 for the first summer. This summer I heard some Wetsound Pro-485s and decided to upgrade again.

Go for the Evids if you can get them for less than $300. You can get a set of nice polished clamps from e-bay that are a little lower profile than the Monster clamps, PM me if you want the source. You should run the Evid's wired in parallel so the amp sees a 4 ohm load in Mono, also run the crossovers in highpass at 200hz. Start with a single 12" sub or a pair of 8s or 10s. I like running three amplifiers so I can control each component of the system independently. A strong stereo amp for the tower, a decent four channel for the boat and a class D for the sub. Put a switch inline to the tower amp so you can kill the tower speakers when you don't have a rider and don't want to disturb the neighbors.

                    LT206,

I might be able to hook you up with some amps if needed... need to clean out my closet.

Thanks for the responses guys. FatBoy - I guess I misread some posts that looked like you were upgrading. I'm glad to hear your still happy with them.

Mikeski, I was planning on getting either a Kicker 700.5 amp that has a separate sub amp and controls built in or a JL E6450 with six channels that I could bridge two channels to power the sub with. I was thinking this would keep from taking up so much space with amps if I could do it with two. I haven't really thought through the amp for the EVIDs yet, I just ran across this deal this week. I would be interested in hearing what you've got for sale. I'll send you a PM.

From what I've read I think the EVIDs would be a perfect fit for what I'm wanting out of the tower speakers, plus I think they'd look good on my red tower.
