    CMD5 Installation

I have an 2006 SAN SE with no stereo. The boat is wired for speakers and also has what appears to be a wiring harness for the stereo. There is a 12 pin connector which has the speaker wires (and others, not sure what) and also a seperate 4 pin connector with three wires - red, black & yellow (power & groud?). I want to install a Clarion CMD5 which comes with a 16 pin harness.

    Questions???

In the factory 12 pin harness is there power for the head unit? If not, is that what the seperate 4 pin is for?

Can I purchase an adapter to go from the factory 12 pin male to the Clarion 16 pin female?

Sorry for the non-techinical terms..any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The 12 pin is for the 3 sets of speakers that you have - 2 pair in the main area and 1 pair in the bow. The 4 pin connector (with 3 wires) is the power and ground. The red wire is the ignition-on power, the yellow is constant power and the black is the ground.

I doubt there is an adapter to the single 16 pin connector. You'll probably just need to cut the wires and re-splice.

Contact your dealer to see if there is a factory pigtail that goes between the deck and the existing plugs. I have a CMD5 and it has the same plug on the back as a CMD4 does. It should just plug right in.

Thanks to everyone for thier knowledge in this thread and the hundreds of others I have gone through.

I have been installing the system every night after the kids go to bed. The first cut in the vinyl was a little nerve racking but after that it got surprisingly easy to cut holes in a $45k boat…HAHA!

So far I got all the speakers in, the head unit mounted, the wiring harness all spliced & all the wiring cleaned up, the dash mount cut for the remote, the remote extension cable ran (just barely made it) and CCA-Ipod cable setup - I am running the connection for the Ipod through the drain hole in the glove box. Today the amp fuse, RCAs and battery connectors will be here and I will get the amp mounted. Then hopefully it will work.
