I am looking to upgrade my stock clarion speakers in my 2000 SAN this winter. Right now there are 4 speakers powered by the clarion deck (no sub/amp). I am looking to replace the 4 speakers, add a sub, and add an amp. I want to run the four 6.5" speakers and the sub off of one amp. That way, when I add tower speakers next year, I can power them with an additional amp, and have a total of 2 amps.
I was wondering how the polk momos sound for those who have them. I know CC uses them on the new models, so I would expect that they sound good. If I go with 4 new polkmomos (probably the 2-ways, as I think the components would be hard to retrofit into the boat?), I am considering the Kicker 5 channel amp, which has a true dedicated channel for the sub.
My other consideration is the JL Audio. I could use the same Kicker amp, or use their 6 channel (which really doesn't have the dedicated amp channel). I have heard the JLs in a few MCs, and they sound really nice. They are significantly more $$$.
Any advice relating to what brand speakers/amp would helpful.
Also, is mounting the sub in front of the driver possible? The only other spot would be in the storage under the spotter seat, which of couse would be enclosed, and I suspect that I would lose some sound.
