Does anybody have any experience comparing between the two above listed configurations? Just wondering if one set-up has benefits over the other that I hadn't accounted for....
I just instaled a set of 485 on my titan3 tower. I wish I had got the 3 some. If you tower has any bend to it go with the 3 some. The 485 has to have a straight bar to look right.
2016 G23 H6
2014 G23 550
2013 G23 450 (Great boat)
2008 230 Team-ZR6- ACME 1235 ( back in a Nautique again)
2005 Malibu LSV 23 wakesetter (Real Dumb Mistake)
2000 SAN ( Loved that boat)
1998 Air Nautique ( our first boat)
The threesome tends to fit better on towers with a curved top bar. I prefer the sound of the 485's over a threesome. The Pro-80's are a tad bright for my listening tastes. That said, I would guess the threesome is the most popular setup.
I agree that the dual 485's do look alittle weird with the tower bars not being completely level making them sit off kilter abit, but I really wanted the dual horns so I went that route vs. the 3-some. Just glanced at them while hanging them, but I think I can add a little shim or something to make them sit level again. I'll let everyone know if I figure it out.
In my opinion, the PRO485's are the most linear of all HLCD tower speakers. You can't beat the larger compression driver larger horn. The 3-Some is ideal for towers that do not have the available width.
Also, a Syn4 will optimally power one pair of PRO485's whereas it's a little more complex and sometimes more expensive to get the best amplifier fit for the 3-Some.
Alright just ordered Two pro 485 and the ws 420. Now I need help on the best way to hook them up to my set up I have Three kicker 650.4 amps and a kicker 1250.1 for my two 12's how should I utilize my amps with my stock stereo and the new 485's
run one kicker on all the in boat speakers with the bow on ch1-2 and the rear on ch3-4, one kicker bridged into 2 ch's for the tower, and the 1250 on your subs. i don't know what vc your subs have and what not, but someone will be able to tell you whether to wire in parallel or series. i would say just save that 3rd kicker 4 ch incase something happens to one of the ones installed so all you have to do is swap it.-sounds like a really nice system.
