Convert trailer surge brakes to electric. Need more info

What's involved in converting a trailer with surge brakes to electric? Anybody who has done this please tell us how you did, what you learned, time to do it yourself, price and any other helpful info.

i went to a local trailer supply store to inquire about that. It was cheaper, it was easy, more reliable to use electric brakes. Then I moved to a lake and the trailer became less important. I would recommend using trailer.com for the parts.

The wake crowd will have little resident knowledge in this area.

the go-fast crowd have been doing these conversions for years... lots more knowledge with those folks.

Is your tow vehicle already set up with an electric brake controller?

Does the trailer have disk or drum brakes?

I haven't make the switch to electric, but i did convert my old trailer from drum to disk, which made a big difference.

You will have to replace the actuator/coupler off the front of your trailer and bleed the brake lines after.

You probably need to rework the trailer wiring harness as well.

Assuming your rig is already set up that should be it.

        Good luck.
