    Ramlin trailer with oil bath bearings help.

    I have an 09 single axle ramlin trailer with those retro fit Kodak oil bath bearing conversions on them. I have had them serviced and changed the blue caps and o rings on them and the oil still goes cloudy as soon as I dip the trailer. Which means waters getting in and isn't working the way it was designed and will not handle lubbing the bearing effectively once the summer heat hits. Any idea on where water could be coming in or how to deal with this. If no good solutions I'll convert them back to grease style. Cheers.

    sounds like one of the seals is still not seating/sealing properly.

      Yeah I know that's my thought too but with all the new stuff and wonder if it's coming in the back... they are retro fit kits and it was on when I bought the trailer

        UFP was so against oil bath for boating use, they sent me brand new "buddies" to install in their place for free. Apparently, when the oil is warm from trailering, and they are dunked into the cooler water, the vacuum condition created lets water enter the vessels.

          Yeah I know. In the manuals they all say let cool before dunking trailer...depends on the system and depends on the guy you talk too. Like I said because it's a kodiak system that was retro fit I think going back to grease might be easier and then I don't have to screw with replacing back seals etc. etc. no more worries...

            What's it take to go from those Kodiak oil bath to grease? I've got an 04 Ramlin with one axle oil and other axle grease. Came that way from PO and I haven't done anything about it yet but want to go grease

              Not sure I think remove kodiak adapter and then press in bearing buddy pack with grease and go. I mean I can see grease nipples still in the hub. I think it just needs to be packed and that's it. Fairly straight forward.

                Do the Ramlin trailers use the Dexter axle type of EZ-lube system? I thought they did which wouldn't require bearing buddies.

                  Yeah my bad no bearing buddies just what you said ez lube system. Why anyone would have switched it to oil bath is beyond me...

                    Oil bath set up gone...back to grease. Just press kodiak sleeves out pack bearings put caps on and go. Easy and straight forward.

                      Sorry to ask so many questions but I might need to be doing this. Did you pull the whole hub off and put in new seals for grease or just replace the caps from oil to grease and pump the grease zerk full?

                        No prob. I had some other work done at my local trailer shop and just had them do it. But they pulled hub off so they could pack the bearings properly New seals and caps like maybe 8-10 bucks in parts. Hope that helps but I asked them and that's what they said. If you have packed bearings before this is routin just think of it as a re pack when servicing and change the stuff you normally would on a regular bearing service...hope that helps.
