Hydraulic surge drums to electric drum conversion

My trailer has always banged forward and backward when braking and then accelerating due to the surge brake actuator not working properly. I never really worried about it too much as I tow 5 miles twice per year (from storage and back. Boat lives on a lift). With this slow start to summer, I decided to go ahead and replace the actuator hoping for an easy fix (yeah, I know). New actuator went on fine, but when I went to bleed it, I was not able to pull anything (was using a vacuum bleeder) from one brake and the bleeder valve on the other was stuck closed. I think I got bigger issues that just the actuator. So my question is, do I try to salvage what I have and fix the hydraulic system, of just go the electric route? Anyone ever done the electric drums? Pros/cons?

I would take a serious look at electric first. The banging sound is the way the surge actuator is supposed to work. It jams forward with the weight of the trailer.

For the amount you tow I would not make any changes.

I know how surge brakes work and can tell you this is not normal. The tongue slides from all the way forward to all the way back with no resistance so I go from no brake to full brake instantly. When the trailer is empty, it locks up the brakes pretty regularly.

I agree for my amount of towing, it's not worth worrying about, but what I didn't mention is that I will likely sell this boat in the next year or so and figured I would start chipping away at the stuff that I know needs to be done prior to the sale.
