    Trailer Surge Brake Diagnostic suggestions?

    I have a 2014 Nautique G25 with a Boatmate trailer. The trailer brakes are not working at all. The pads look good, there is plenty of brake fluid. It just appears that it is not compressing at all, as if the reverse actuator is always locking out the breaks. I have tried backing up a hill with the trailer electronics disconnected, and there was no brake. I don't have a close Nautique dealer, and so I was hoping to see if you might have some suggestions on how to diagnose this, or if there were some simple things I could do to determine the root cause.

    The solenoid for the reverse could be hung up. You can order all new parts for the unit but its actually not much more and easier to just switch out the entire assembly. I just replaced the complete assembly on my trailer today. I have a 2012 SAN 230 that I bought a year ago. I towed it over 500 miles back home with zero trailer brakes! That sucked. I added fluid to the surge brake master cylinder and bled the system down but it still wasnt 100% right. I think the shock inside was shot. After looking at all the options of buying new parts I just decided to buy a complete assembly from Pacific boat trailers. It was reasonably priced and eliminated the issue entirely. It was quite easy to change out too. Normally I would opt for doing a rebuild but considering the costs involved and the time of year it is i didnt want to waist the time. Especially when I have a 600 mile road trip planned to Lake Cumberland in a week or so.

      Lake Cumberland... not too far from me, I am in Bowling Green, KY, and mostly lake at Barren River, but Lake Cumberland is great. I think that is a reasonable option, and you say it isn't hard to replace? I will look up to see if there are any videos on replacing it.

        A little more research, your A-60 is $175, easy to replace. My A-160 is $360 and requires welding to replace, so not sure that is going to work, I can get a new master cyl and solenoid both for under $100, think I am going to do that and just have my mechanic do both.
