210 Trailer... or trailer in general... question

In another thread I posted about a potential upgrade. Part of that benefit in the upgrade was getting a trailer with the potential new boat which I presently don't have with my current 2015 210. I also like my 210, would be generally happy keeping it, and am considering just getting a trailer. When I purchased my 210, I felt fine leaving the boat in the dock (on the lift), winterized throughout the winter and declined getting a trailer. The first winter went fine. This past winter saw multiple windstorms that while they didn't damage the boat, they did damage the floating dock, and gave me significant pause about leaving a very expensive asset to the mercy of West Texas wind.

With the end of the season approaching I've been keeping my eye out for used trailers, but I'm not seeing anything. The dealer quoted me a fair price for a new 210 specific Boatmate, but it is spendy. My trailer use would be pulling the boat out at the end of the season and taking it less than 50 miles, maybe as few as 5 miles, to an indoor storage facility. While I have dreams of taking the boat with me to Lake Powell, I just don't see that happening. The benefits and quality of Boatmate is easily recognizable, I just don't know if it's overkill (and subsequently overspend) for my intended use.

With the v-drive and the hull shape and whatnot, am I limited to a 210 specific trailer? Would I be able to source something else that's lighter on the wallet? Or should I just suck it up and spend the money for a good trailer for a good boat?

I'd suck it up and get the good trailer made for the boat or don't get one. If you go to sell and have a crap trailer that will be a red flag to buyers; they will expect that the trailer fits and matches the quality of the boat. If not, they will wonder where else you cut corners, especially on things like maintenance. If you get the good trailer you can recoup some of the investment (I would think) on resale.

I am in the exact same position. We have a floating dock as well. The lake is so rough It will allow me to pull the boat out on the holiday weekends. I plan on buying a brand new trailer for my GS20.
