    Name this squeak?

I understand trailers squeak. But there is one very loud one on my trailer that seems isolated (compared to the rest of the running gear). It’s sensitive on very small road bumps and during slow turns. On sharp, slow turns it makes cracking sounds like somebody is banging on the frame of the trailer.

Several people make comments asking if everything is OK with the trailer.

Would you guys say this is normal? Anything I can do to tame it?

If I were to guess, it sounds like a torsion axle that isn't lubed or right to me. Torsion axles typically have rubber rods or isolators that can be noisy and can make a cracking noise as they articulate. If your trailer has a torsion axle that's where I would start. If not I'd be looking at the springs or spring perches. What kind of axles are on the trailer and what kind of trailer is it?

I don’t know how to answer the axle question, but it’s a SBT trailer. Here’s are few pics of the axle and running gear.

That's a torsion axle. You can tell as you don't have leaf springs and you can see the trailing arms in the picture. Get the manufacture's name off the axle/trailing arm, call the company that made them and see what they say. They may have a recall or some kind of fix for the noise. It may be as simple as using some kind of spray lube or hitting a grease fitting some where.

I creeped under the trailer and shot dry lube on all the joints in the running gear. I stayed away from the torsion bushings as they apparently can deteriorate if lubed. Squeak is gone!
