Can anyone tell me your experience towing with a Ford Transit van. I am looking at one with an ecoboost engine to pull my 2009 230.

Transit is a platform. There are a ton of different variations and they run on 150, 250, and 350 platforms. Never towed a boat with one but they’re pretty terrible at towing. The passenger vans are usually rated in the 4500ish range. The cargo vans only go up to like 7000lbs. I’ve towed about a 4,000lb utility trailer with a cargo Transit and that wasn’t fun. It can’t get out of its own way unloaded. Add a trailer and it’s somehow worse. I’d hate to try to pull a boat up a boat ramp with one.

Are you buying new? That ecoboost engine has had its share of problems especially as they get some miles on them . Look up [Ecoboost Problems] and do your homework. That 230 has a dry weight of 4650 lbs after trailer, fuel and accessories you will easily be at 6500 to 7000 lbs. I pull with a GMC Savana 3500 6L with a tow package I have towed my 210 from Indiana to Georgia and all over the south never had a towing issue.

I was thinking of a motovan and commuter car to replace my F250. The 250 diesel is great not doubt but I have also towed with an ecoboost Raptor. The truck was great so I would opt for the ecoboost into a 250 Transit with 4 wheel drive. People I know with the ecoboost have had no problems. These reviews are quite different from what I thought I would hear.

I'm a European car guy at heart. I've had 60-70 vehicles and had never once bought a Ford (or Chevrolet, for that matter) until last fall when I picked up a 2020 F250 King Ranch diesel to tow the boat home from the marina for the winter. I don't know what year your F250 is, but the new ones are nice enough to drive daily. In fact, they're nice enough that I ordered a 2021 F350 Platinum to replace the 2020.
You might want to look into a new Super Duty before splitting your fleet in two. MY22 has a new dash in the upper trim levels with a 12" touchscreen, if that's your thing.
