    Dorsey Trailers Info

Does anyone have any info on Dorsey Trailers? I'm looking for Bearing and Break info. I have called them, and e-mailed them multiple times, and get nothing back.

Dorsey trailers is no longer in business. The one you are finding is not the same company. I have an issue with my brakes as well, if anybody has a solution.....

I'm all but certain they didn't make their own components like actuators or calipers. The best place I know of that has real people with great experience is Waymire Distribution.....

If it's a trailer they probably have an answer even if it means retrofitting something to convert from what you have to something that is still manufactured. They also have a marine trailer catalog you can download to see if you see something that matches what you need.

You'll have to go to "trailer school." You'll need to measure the bearing sizes, it's pretty easy to do with a cheap dial caliper. A 3500# axle has 1 3/8" inside bearings and 1 1/16" outer bearings. If you have a tandem axle, these are most likely the bearings and seals you'll need. If you have a single axle, you'll need to determine if you have a 3500 or 5200# axle (most 5200# are six lug wheels).
Brakes will depend on if you have drum or disc brakes. If you have drums, I would recommend you throw them away and install disc brakes! Even discs require maintenance and some basic knowledge to maintain. A functioning brake system for your trailer is a great safety enhancement for your towing experience.

This. You need to sleuth out who they got their components from and then you can source the right parts. Frequently, components are mfg marked but the tags have been painted over. For bearings and seals, you may need to pull a wheel and note actual part numbers. I've had to do this for every trailer I've owned...then once I figure it out, I work backwards to get the NAPA or similar part numbers. This makes field repairs much simpler as you're not longer looking for a Dorsey trailer inner wheel bearing race (impossible to locate), you're looking for NAPA part number abc-123 which any part store can cross into. Same for the pads / shoes.

For example, my DHM mfg trailer (no longer in business either) uses UFP DB-35 calipers (UFP is still around) which happen to accept Kia Sophia front brake pads, Autozone part number MKD-649. I'd have zero luck walking into a parts store asking for brake pads for a DHM trailer but any store can find me MKD-649 pads.

Stevemo14 check out easternmarine.com or trailer depot. They stock almost all of the brake systems and wheel bearings. 6 lug=5200# axles, which, is "overkill" for an OG 210, but alot of people really liked the Dorsey trailers. If you check out the calipers you will be able to determine which brand you have. Actuators, if it's original, you'll need to have a look at the master cylinder and shock. The actuators will stick, leaving line pressure to the calipers. If you can't work on the trailer, you'll need to take it to a trailer shop to go through the brakes and actuator.

I've had drums before and they would lock up, current trailer has UFP calipers and one axle locked up due to the caliper rusting and not allowing the piston to retract. If you're replacing brake components, some of the new versions are available in aluminum (calipers) and stainle$$, but, if you're keeping the boat a while, and hate doing trailer work, these are worth checking out.
