DHM Trailer, no safety chain

New to the family... my first boat is a 08 SANTE 210 w/DHM trailer. There is no safety chain. What is everyone running or do you recommend. I am going to be trailering this thing all over this summer and want to make sure I’m safe.

Are u asking about a safety chain to secure bow to trailer? If so a turnbuckle works well. Closeup pick of ur setup would be helpful

Are you asking about replacing the safety cables with chains that are already on there? I've got a triple axle boatmate for my new P23 and it has safety cables like that.

No, just a safety chain/cable from bow to trailer.

My SB Trailer for my 2007 SV211 also came with no safety chain (or spare tire). I had a guy attach one and it was done by attaching the chain to the bolt holding the winch to the trailer. From your pics, I'm not sure that would work for you but I'm sure something could be done. I agree that relying on the winch strap alone is not a good idea.

I'd run one and actually just installed a boat buckle brand one on my boat trailer yesterday. You have a bunch of options to rig one up depending on how much you want to spend, how much trouble you willing to go to and how you want it to look/function.

The most expensive, time consuming and probably best way would be to have a slotted bracket welded to the trailer frame directly below the bow eye when the boat is sitting on the trailer which is how they do it on new trailers. You'd install a retractable strap and you'd have a DFL ("D' F'ing Lux") set up. For this installation, if you don't know how to weld or have a welder you're taking it to a shop to have it welded then painting the area after it's been welded. The painting part isn't as hard as it may sound due to the location and you have a black trailer.

Next would be to drill a hole through either the tubing in the location described above and use a stainless steel eye bolted through the tubing or you could to the same thing at the winch tower post.

I have seen people get a grade 8 bolt and replace one of the winch mounting bolts closest to the bow eye, then run some stainless chain with a hook on the end.

Lastly there's the, just get a ratchet strap and find a place that looks like it'll hold it. Probably somewhere on the winch tower.

All the listed options I would say are better than nothing.....

Easiest thing would probably be to just get a bow tie down such as this. From the looks of your setup should be plug-n-go. Saw this one at Cabela's.

I think that cable from Pacific trailers would work fine. Be sure it is mounted with a grade 8 bolt. Stainless would be nice but not as strong.
