My Eagle with custom wheels has been running Nexen Z rated high performance “street” tires not trailer tires. I hope I don’t regret posting this , but never had a blowout in 10’s of thousands of trailering miles. Am with shag. I replace mine 4-5 yr intervals. Regardless of miles.

previous boat had 3 blowouts with marathons .

Ya know, years and years ago (like 20 lol) Marathons used to be the go to... Obviously they had a change in manufacturing along the way...

They definitely had some issues. 2009ish. Lots in fact. It’s hard to kinda tell because obviously they were hugely popular so you expect to hear more blowouts than the next , but prett sure the lawsuits and recalls equated with them tell the truth.

I ran Marathon's on the previous 3 boats which spanned about 20 years. Not a single blow out or even a flat tire. I swapped mine out every 4 years only pulled in the mornings or evenings to stay out of the crazy heat and was fanatical about tire pressure. I also had the tires balanced which I got into several discussions with the tire shops about along the way. I've never understood the logic of not balancing trailer tires but then again.....

Interestingly enough I've had the same track record with Optima batteries. Just finished season 8 with that. Never had an issue with those either which is odd as that's another one of those items that people love or hate and either have good or bad luck with. Go figure.

I know you are on the MC forum too and post a lot. I have read a lot of your posts and info and trust you at this point!

I plan to make a decision either way this weekend. Not buying marathons I know that now.

You give a measurement but it is far from exact, however that is workable. I would say any of the above tires and sizes I posted above will fit.

I am not afraid to run Light Truck (LT) tires on trailers I have done it for years. For over the last decade the only trailer tires you could purchase were made in China and were crap until Goodyear came out with the Endurance. Prior to Goodyears Endurance model Goodyear made a trailer tire that was originally made in the USA and they had a good reputation. Then Goodyear moved their manufacturing to China for that tire and poor quality issues showed up. Lots of blow out issues. I am not usually a Goodyear fan but they currently are the only ones making a quality trailer tire in my opinion. So I have run LT tires on my tandem axle Airstream for years. Stick with quality and manufacture dates on your tires and roadside problems will be minimal.

Sorry, I missed the entire page two above my last post. Marathons were the Goodyears I was referring to that were originally made in the USA then Goodyear moved their manufacturing to China. Poor quality resulted. With the Goodyear Endurance manufacturing was returned to the USA. I have no experience with them personally but I have not read about the problems like the Marathons ended up having and they will be what I replace my trailer tires with.

My 1997 single axle trailer came with marathons, and I had a blowout with tread separation within the first 2 years of seasonal weekend use back then.

I did just put on new Endurance tires from tire rack, swapping out my original steel wheels for aluminum at the same time.

I ended up going with an XL weight and high speed rated 17” last week. If I have any issues with this route I am going to switch it all out. I do always tow but not very far often. The furthest I go is about 2 hours 3 times a year.
