Boatmate Trailer SeaDek replacement

hi guys, looking for some guidance/tips on replacing the SeaDek on my boat mate trailer. I bought the trailer over the summer when I thought my boat was being delivered in July and needed it quick. bought it with tan sea decking, I want to change to grey to match the boat when its delivered in march.
anyone got tips on getting that sea decking off without destroying the paint? I know im gonna need a heat gun and a plastic scraper to get under it, anything else?

this brings back bad memories of removing clear bras from cars over the years

also, what color sea deck grey is the match to the sea deck on their website

Email boatmate with your serial number and tell them you want the same kit in grey, they’re normally pretty good with that kind of stuff.

I’ve taken plenty of seadek off of gel coat but never paint. I would get a corner peeled up and spray goo gone under it and slowly work it off. A heat gun wouldn’t hurt either.

I agree with the above. The best way to change it out is to never install the wrong color. Depending on how/when the trailer is built the Sea Deck could be applied well before the paint is fully cured. If this happens chances are the paint will come up with the old (yet still very fresh) Sea Deck. Best bet is to avoid the situation if at all possible. Pas that rolling a corner back and trying to pull the material as close to parallel to the surface while using some type of adhesion remover would be my suggestion. There's all kinds of companies making this stuff other than goo gone like 3M that might be worth looking at.

i would try heat. with either hair dryer or heat gun.

I unfortunately had to buy the trailer and then didn't get the boat delivered but anyhow, im planning on using a heat gun and try not to boi the paint in the process. Ill be able to pull it into my shop and do it in the heat over the winter so I won't mind the time. Im thinking that paint and a good adhesive remover as we go should do the trick. I haven't found any good way to remove thick adhesives as of now

I started this project today, got half done before I had to split for the day. Heat gun helps get the corner up and started, aside from that its useless. It Took me 45 minutes to figure out the best way to do it but i did it. After 3-4x of my hand nearly being burned from the heat gun and not making much progress I put down the heat gun, plastic razor blades and bondo spreaders. I grabbed the adhesive remover that I bought at the auto paint shop, peel and spray the bottom, glue just releases and dissolves from the bottom of the pad. goes much quicker with two people, one to apply pulling pressure, one to keep squirting the underlayment of adhesive. Ill have it all done tomorrow, scrape and remove the adhesive on trailer, clean, prep, and replace pads.
Auto-tech, Quick-n-Easy is the adhesive I used. its a heavy duty industrial product. caution against using it for anything not labeled.

SeaDek shouldn't hold water. It is closed-cell foam.

Yes but it does not mean that water will not work its way between the trailer and SeaDek backing/glue. I had a trailer with a vinyl Malibu cutout on top of the fenders. Years later when the glue gave out and I pealed the vinyl off and there was rust. If I find out that rust can develop below the SeaDek I will pull it off my trailer. When ordered, I could not believe that my beautiful galvanized trailer cost less than a painted one.

no rust under my seadek but my trailer is also only 1 year old and has only seen water twice so if it had rust we'd be having another conversation.
Finished this tonight, ready to replace tomorrow. This was a lot easier than anticipated. 100 pack of plastic razor blades, good scraper, soak in auto-tech adhesive remover 2-3 minutes prior to scraping, replace razor blade frequently, and lots of paper towels. 4 hours start to finish to remove all pads, adhesives and wipe completely clean.
