Triple Axle Tire Pressure

Hey All,

I am not new to towing but I am new to towing with 18inch rims with low profile tires haha. I have a G25 with a boatmate triple axle trailer, this boat is used but new to me and was delivered with 25 PSI. The tires on there are rated at MAX 50 PSI, and like I mentioned are currently sitting at 25 PSI and it feels a bit soft. Is this pressure OK? I would think 35-40 would be better but maybe 25 is better for trailer handling when backing up and etc? Thoughts?

My notes are that trailer tires are generally inflated to the "max" tire pressure shown on the tire sidewall. I typically run my double axle pressures at 45lbs (tires are marked for 50lbs). I really can tell when my tp's are low...rig works harder pulling the boat; fuel mileage suffers.

That is too low. They should be at max PSI 'cold'. That is a heavy boat and running a tire too low PSI will generate a lot of heat and cause a tire to fail.

I'm in the same arena with SilentSeven, I'll start at 45psi, and then watch for wear.
25psi is way to soft, you will start to see rapid wear on the outside/inside of each tire, and you are eating extra fuel to pull those soft sponges down the road.
Too much pressure and you will start to see the the middle of the tires start to wear. Each trailer and tire combo can be just a little different for the perfect air pressure, but 45psi is a good starting point, and then pay attention that each tire is wearing evenly across the tread. Road temperatures can change the dynamics of pressure also, hot summer roads will increase your pressure as you roll.

On another note, just so I can vent. I did something I never do, curbed a tire on the trailer yesterday evening. Pulling into Sonic for cheeseburgers after a lake run. I was hungry dang it, and not paying attention. Nailed the curb on a turn to park, got the tire and I'm afraid the rim may be fubar'd, I'll know this morning. New tires this season too. That turned out to be some expensive cheeseburgers.

I agree. I always run my trailer tires at max or near-max.

And Scooter G, with all of the towing I have done, I have done that a time or two as well. There are certain instances where it just cannot be helped. If I get caught in one of those, I just go as slowly as possible over the curb, and check for damage afterward. I have torn one tire pretty badly on a curb, but never damaged a wheel luckily. Happens to all of us eventually, and I consider myself to be pretty good with these trailers by now.
