    Best tongue jack?

Our basic Fulton one-wheel tongue jack seems to be on its last legs. It's been okay but we've gone through a few in the 30 years we've been boating and have always wanted to find something sturdier. It's tough to really know what is best when reading online reviews so I thought I'd put the question to you fine folks. Have any of you found a trailer jack substantially better than the others? What would you recommend?

(I did search the forums and saw a thread talking about Dutton-Lainson. One member preferred it over their Fulton and the other said it was less stable. Does anyone know if Nautique is still sending their trailers out with Dutton-Lainson jacks?)

My 2019 Phoenix trailer came with the F2. I've heard there's a new model that all the kids are talking about which I think is this one....

Also heard that it uses a different mounting pattern (of course it does) so you would need an adapter plate to mount it up to your existing trailer mounting pad. The key word in that statement is HEARD as I personally haven't seen or used one so I can only go by what they're saying on that other forum.

It looks nice but it looks like it uses the same old position locking design so I don't see how it would be any more stable that previous designs.

My 2020 Boatmate trailer came with the DL tongue jack. In my opinion, It is much more stable that the Fulton jacks I've had on previous trailers. I would not hesitate using the DL jack. Don't think you'll be disappointed. Might be able to visit any dealer that uses Boatmate trailers and see for yourself. I think they come standard on the late model Boatmate trailers.

That’s funny, the 2020 Phoenix under my G21 has a jack built from square steel tubing welded directly to the frame. Not sure the make, but the leg and rectangular foot are aluminum and the whole assembly is rock solid.

Sometimes I think they throw whatever they have on the shelve on. Or maybe that was in an upgrade package or required due to the weight of the boat. This is my rig.....

            I have a dual-wheel Fulton F2. I'll give it an "average" rating.

This is what I put on a trailer recently (the ski I have for sale). It's the heaviest jack I've found, overkill for a ski boat, but you can adjust it vertically and the handle pops off for security. It looks a little cumbersome but I see they have a black version now that would blend better with a trailer.

I just bought a 2022 G21 with boatmate trailer and it has the DL square tube jack. I really like the jack but the position of the jack cannot be changed so on unregular ground sometimes it is difficult to get the jack to swing down from horizontal position, I have to fill my air bags to raise the back of my truck to get it to swing down. I reached out to DL and they responded very quickly but said there is no way to adjust the position of the jack up or down like the Fulton's

I have never had to replace a jack. Is there a failure issue I should be concerned about?

abstron, just a curiosity thought. I have a similar situation with my Fulton Jack, it's cranked all the way up and the swing can be a little tight. My situation is because the boat is on a shop slab, and the truck sits a little lower on ground level outside the shop when unloading. I can operate my air bags remotely, which is kind of fun because I can bump them up, unleash, few spins on the jack and deflate the bags, it almost unhitches itself. I have an adjustable hitch, and I found that by moving it up one notch, about an inch, it alleviated my low jack problem, and trailer still sits almost level.

srock, I figure my jack goes up and down under load about 40 to 50 spins a Season (100 times up and down). I think they just wear out with use. I did my best to lube it this Spring, but I can feel it's getting a little more cranky to spin. I think I'm just buying time at this point...

Adding to the mix... We have to use our jack and launch everyday we take the boat out. Our 2024 Boatmate trailer came with a square tube 2,000-lb D-L jack, it has the pad foot as opposed to wheels. It's by far the sturdiest jack I've ever had on any of my many, many trailers. Only the 1st season with it, but it seems like it's built like a tank. Solid operation, mount, really happy so far.
