    Boatmate trailer, Hubs!!

So I was doing some maintenance on my 2014 boatmate trailer(4200LB torsion axles) as I noticed I have a leaky seal on one of the hubs. I decided to tear into all 4. The seal I got from my dealer is the 2.56" O.D. seal for the 4200 hub. Well that didnt fit and I measured my hub and its actually a 2.33" O.D. size. Makes me curious if my hubs are all the 3750 as all of the part numbers on them are 32861. I am not sure where to go from here. I assume the hubs would not be up to snuff for the g23 that goes on the trailer. I know the spindles are the 4200 as they dont step down at all and stay 1.375" for the length of the spindle until the rear where the bearing sits. I do have some concerns with hubs although I typically only tow about 2 miles to the ramp.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I have heard Boatmates customer service is not very good.

None of these trailer manufactures make their own components. I'd start by verifying the axels by getting the information off the axle itself. There should be a manufacture and part number stamped on the axel. From there you should be able to go to the manufacture for all the detailed specs and parts. At that point you can decide if you want to go any further modifying the trailer.

From what I've read about Boatmate, support is hit and miss with most people commenting with less than great reviews.

I will testify that support is more miss than hit. Downright awful.

Well, to no surprise I have reached out to Boatmate and have not heard anything back. Email and Phone call. Hopefully the number on their site is the correct number.

Also tried to reach out to UPF and radio silence.

Looks like I will just keep pulling this trailer like it is. I did some maintenance on it and only ended up putting some new grease/oil in because I pulled it apart to do the new seals. Bearings all seamed good everything spins good. Also did all new brake pads and checked brake fluid and it all looks great! Onto enjoying the season.

Decoding trailer parts is always hit and miss.

I try to use the part number from the removed part to spec the new one and then log to a cheat-sheet. For example, here's my sheet for my 2004 DHM trailer.

And to keep track of what was done by wheel, I keep this little service map. Getting too old keep all this in my head.

You don't need boatmate to fix your trailer or should I say if you want it fixed anytime soon. Get the needed parts from etrailer, or try tractor supply, or auto parts store.

I used this place out of California a while back to help rebuild a Buddy's trailer, also added new torsion arms with Vault hubs, new rotors & calipers. They were amazing on the phone, and nailed the parts order on the 1st run. Prices seemed reasonable, for future reference.

So to all that have replied I appreciate it. I did get the correct size seals and replaced those on the vault hubs. I am unsure still if the hubs are the correct size for the spindle but they fit with no extra play or anything.

Although my issue that I did not have before is that the brakes are now seem to be too tight and I tend to overheat the brakes heading down the hills to get to the ramp. I do my best to not ride the brakes and not be really hard on them but with it being surge brakes I do believe that something is worn out causing them to actuate too much or often. I know my truck will stop the boat just fine without the trailer brakes but I do like having the extra braking just not as much braking as I currently have.

We run some pretty steep inclines dropping into a few of the high mountain lakes.
Actually have a trip coming up that some of the elevation drops are crazy. I will have to pull over at a point to lock out the actuator so my brakes don't get smoked. It's really not the brakes so much but the transfer of the heat to the bearings. I learned this the hard way one season with the Supra, bearing grease non-vault bearings, got to the boat ramp and the bearings were toast, smoked all the grease out of them and melted the bearing caps.

I keep one in the truck, and one in the boat.
